BotFeeds
From Cities
BotFeeds are run by bots placed strategically around the map to save you having to walk so far (only to find out that the clove of garlic isn't really for sale). Standard "don't rely on these for anything important" disclaimers apply.

FAQ
Are the feeds down? I get an error.
- The market feeds are hosted on a development box, so may occasionally go up and down. If they go down for a significant time, leave a comment and I'll make sure they're functioning.
I get Feed too large error.
- FeedBurner doesn't allow feeds >256K, so this is probably at fault. Leave a comment to request a fix, and in the meantime the 'rss' links should still be functional.
The Eastern Market feed has been making a clunking sound for the last few times I've checked (the last day or so, 10/20-21.) The RSS version seems to work, though.
- I've now limited the feeds to the last 3 hours (as suggested, natch ;). Citiesberg keeps track of previous prices anyway. Moj 01:12, 22 Dec 2005 (GMT)
East, South, and West feeds haven't been updated since the 5th. --24.42.171.20 02:45, 10 February 2006 (GMT)
- They've been current all day for me, although sometimes I do have to hit refresh. 24.62.35.28 03:09, 10 February 2006 (GMT)
There've been no feeds now for a couple of days. Teacake 10:14, 16 August 2006 (BST)
More recently, we've got no market grapher. What can be done about this? 71.193.188.158 06:59, 30 October 2006 (GMT)
The feeds (and Citiesberg) appear to have been down for the better part of the last day -- Thog 02:10, 2 April 2007 (BST)
- The bots appear to have gone into Limbo (possibly due to the password problem); Citiesberg is additionally vexed by having lost the power strip to the rack after a power failure. (Info about Citiesberg from IRC.) --BlaisedeC 04:12, 2 April 2007 (BST)
Comments
- If you find the feeds habit-forming, you might find the RSStroom Reader indispensible. Note in particular the biometric user identification which will be very handy if you have managed to involve your entire household in the cities craze.
- Suggestion for Nick G.: How about something which reads the values and when they sell and maps the commodities markets.
- I was actually thinking of a bot collective that took advantage of the opportunity for arbitrage in the market price variations to make lots of money... Nick 09:58, 16 Nov 2005 (GMT)
- I don't know what's worse, that someone wrote these or that I have actually subscribed to both feeds.--Cube Boyd 20:58, 25 Nov 2005 (GMT)
- no, what's worst is, i'm finally downloading my first RSS feeder; just specifically for these cities feeds, which i really have no use for yet anyway. --Amishrobots 12:31, 19 Jan 2006 (GMT)
- Hmm what do you think about only having the last few hours' data on the feeds? That'd help the >256k error wouldn't it?
- What do people think about making the feed titles a little more descriptive - perhaps listing the date/time instead of just 'Latest Market Prices'? Ant 22:51, 20 Dec 2005 (GMT)
Bot Rules
When making bots consider a few things:
- don't hammer the server (every hour is reasonable)
- don't make anything which skews the game to much for people using it: ie. no bots you can palantir to get summoned. That's the same as using lots of characters as mules, jump points etc. and will result in horrible retribution.
- don't do anything which stops the game being fun for new players. Don't do anything confusing to new players or thay'll f-off again.
- don't break the secret rule that elseware will only make up after you break it.
