Excessive Deforestation
Anyone else thinking about this, given how we have shrinking schools of fish? I just can't help feel guilty about over-chopping wood before I went into the vents. Is there a way to encourage the forests to grow faster? - Corellis 12:43, 7 September 2008 (EST)
Troll Auction
I am in possession of a deadly troll. I do not want to be in possession of a deadly troll. I was going to leave him at the pet cemetary, but Kaos Dragon convinced me to put him up for auction instead. Hence, I am offering my troll to the highest bidder. Here are his stats:
- Name: Scissor Beast Bane
- Not at all evil
- Age: 60 weeks
- MaxAP: 48
- XP: 2088
- To-Hit: 80% (will hit 90% at 2400XP)
- Damage: 2000
Please leave bids on my talk page. Happy Bidding!
- By deadly do you mean its level, or that it is it slightly evil and deadly to you, or both?--LimeHan 16:43, 1 September 2008 (BST)
- Thanks for the question. I was referring to his level. Forgot to put evilness (he's not evil) on the list.
Monster
How do you kill a monster (yes thats its name), hp shown as ?..??? ketchup 06:53, 28 Aug 2008 (BST)
- Hit it with a weapon. It'll turn into something else, most likely a Dolphin. --Dragon 07:05, 28 August 2008 (BST)

- After a few hints on IRC, it was determined that it's a reference to an obscure line in "Liber 777" by Aleister Crowley, which states that a particular magical symbol is "a monster (probably a dolphin)." Elseware apparently owns the actual book, and there are a surprising number of references to it in Cities (e.g. the Tree of Life). --Dragon 01:33, 30 August 2008 (BST)
- Table V - columns CLX/CLIX. Now I'm going to have to read the thing again and see what other references I can pick up. Jack NT Box 14:29, 1 September 2008 (BST)

Crashed Craft
Haven't seen mention of this anywhere else yet. Whilst trucking around the Sewers I saw the following:
Anyone have any further info on this? This is in the north-west quadrant of the sewers, close to the path which leads to the valve room. Is this another nod to TMNT? How can we get into this thing?!
--Scary Mike 08:27, 27 Aug 2008 (EDT)
- Oh, um... hey everybody. It's all good, per the Non-Descript Government Agent. There's, ah.... no radiation around the craft. Or craft:
Non-Descript Government Agent sends a message via your palantir.
Non-Descript Government Agent (Yendoday, 27th of Thermidor, about seven in the evening): If you know whats good for you, you will stop investigating the crashed ship. There is nothing to see there. Also I would vacate the immediate area for fear of non-existant nuclear fallout. If there was any, though there isn't.
- You think I'll fold that easy? Forget it, Non-Decript Government Agent! I didn’t spend all those years playing Dungeons and Dragons without learning anything about courage! I'm takin' this to the world! We're gonna blow this wide open!!! (I mean, once we figure out how to go one square west). Who's with me?!?!
- --Scary Mike 06:53, 28 Aug 2008 (EDT)
- (As an aside I did see that the craft was noted in the tunnel map posted elsewhere on the wiki. Still, there doesn't seem to have been any discussion on this, and I'm dying to get to it &see what's inside. Grr! Stupid GLs tantalizing us with stuff and making us want to play the game more!!!) --Scary Mike 09:19, 28 Aug 2008 (EDT)
- The plot thickens!
Non-Descript Government Informant (Elsewaday, 28th of Thermidor, about three in the afternoon): I can't say much [REDACTED BY OFFICIAL SOURCES]fear of repercussions... but the crashed craft is not accessible from the sewers. We first [REDACTED BY OFFICIAL SOURCES] it there, but after our investigation we found it was [REDACTED BY OFFICIAL SOURCES]. That is all I can [REDACTED BY OFFICIAL SOURCES]. You didn't hear this from me.
Non-Descript Government Agent (Elsewaday, 28th of Thermidor, about three in the afternoon): We've been watching your communications and picked up a message that was sent to you. You should disregard it. That person shall be dealt with. You don't want to be dealt with do you? Stay away from [REDACTED BY OFFICIAL SOURCES].
Ha! Looks like I'm off to [REDACTED BY OFFICIAL SOURCES]! See you in space Non-Decript Government Agent! --Scary Mike 11:07, 28 Aug 2008 (EDT)
- Space? You mean like Mars or something? Random4518 18:14, 28 August 2008 (BST)

- Ive found the impact point, just south east of Water City. You can go down to the craft and search for 8ap. I found some strange vibrating metal...... Timekeeper 15:14, 29 August 2008 (BST)
- I'm totally calling it right now; this metal will either be used to make High Frequency Swords (which vibrate at a high frequency, allowing them to cut through most things with ease), or making a Guyver unit. --Prthivi 18:15, 30 August 2008 (BST)

Some kind of craft has crashed here. There is rubble everywhere, but on the exterior of the hull you can make out "Astraterris 01". It is hard to determine it's origin, but it seems to be NOT OF THIS WORLD!
- Oh my God(s)! Stien's girlfriend really IS an alien!!!!! I'm not sure I want to search the craft. It might be kind of like looking through a woman's purse. What if I find... girl stuff? Or alien girl stuff!? - Scary Mike 08:11, 30 August 2008 (EST)

- Ive tried smacking a few Space monsters, Invaders and asteroids around the chops with the strange metal a few times but no joy there. Im stuck in Space now. :( 13:59, 3 September 2008 (BST)
IRC is down(?) Productivity up
Is something going on with the IRC server that #cities is running on? I'm unable to connect now, and based on a PAYG I received from Bort, I'm not the only one... - Thog 16:27, 26 August 2008 (BST)

Vanishing Foodstuff question
Got around to make some bits of molten glass and somehow lost all of my carrots, sheaves of oats and wheat (Along w/ the ingredients needed for the molten glass).
You lose a Carrot. You lose a Carrot. You lose a Carrot. ... You lose a Carrot. You lose a Sheaf of Oats. You lose a Sheaf of Oats. You lose a Sheaf of Oats. ... You lose a Sheaf of Oats. You lose a Sheaf of Wheat. You lose a Sheaf of Wheat. You lose a Sheaf of Wheat. ... You lose a Sheaf of Wheat. You gain 6 Pounds of Poop. You lose 50 Units of Sand. You lose 20 Units of Charcoal. You gain 10 Bits of Molten Glass.
Where "..." stands for rather large iterations of stock. Did I do something wrong? Judging by the byproduct of 6 poops, I suspect my dead horsie stealing from me while I was working hard on the furnance. Anyone has any insight on this little mystery? Or should I report this as a bug and cross my fingers that maybe the Great Lords would replace my loss (better yet, revive my dead horsie?!) - Sgt. Duke Solarice Dragoon 09:33, 21 August 2008 (BST)
- Already reported. See Bugs and Requests for Information. From what I understand, the 'King has been working on having pets feed themselves, but it seems to have worked too well! -Scrumbucket 09:57, 21 August 2008 (BST)
Snowballs
Snowballs now melt - one per ap spent if not in frozen terrain. I've lost all my snowballs, though I have several pints of water now :) Syagrius 20:41, 10 August 2008 (BST)
- Icecubes too! GrumpyNick 13:07, 11 August 2008 (BST)
- Not sure about that rate of melting. I've had seven melt (out of over 100) and I've spent several hundred AP, most of it in Oz. Rhapsodie 13:32, 11 August 2008 (BST)
I was on a desert square, and 12 of mine melted too! Never happened before... Waaah. brandy 21:15, 12 August 2008 (BST)
- I imagine that this now makes the bling of ice, have a purpose. -Stien 06:23, 18 August 2008 (BST)
- Snowballs and Ice cubes melt into water, yes? Anyone attack a witch with the water yet?--LimeHan 06:34, 18 August 2008 (BST)
Quest Templates
As a way to avoid my homework, I went through and cleaned up all the elemental quest pages, took out some excess stuff, added in DSS|GCM links and used a template for the quest overview at the top (check the source of any of the elemental quest pages and you'll see what I mean). If anyone else would like to continue what I was doing for the rest of the quest pages feel free, my eyes are starting to go wonky and I need a break from it.--LimeHan 05:37, 6 August 2008 (BST)
- Does that really need a template? It's pretty simple as it is. Kaos Dragon 06:17, 6 August 2008 (BST)
Fish Problem
From IRC:
<@Sert|ProbablyLurking> I have to say, this whole fishing puzzle is disturbingly realistic. <@Sert|ProbablyLurking> Schools of fish, scattered across a vast ocean <@Sert|ProbablyLurking> Sailors on land, poring over maps <@Sert|ProbablyLurking> Trawlers steaming around, not catching fish <@Sert|ProbablyLurking> When someone finds a school, the call will go out and the trawlers will descend on that spot <@Sert|ProbablyLurking> Soon, the oceans will be overfished and become barren
That's exactly what happened!
Also from IRC:
<AndyLandy> Are jellyfish extinct /already/ ? <AndyLandy> You people were quick
It seems the respawn of new fish is tied somehow to the number of fish already in the shoal. Like real world fish. So when we discovered and fished out that Jelly Fish shoal, that meant that it'd now take longer for more to reappear... if they do at all. I suspect this is going to be inevitable for a while because everyone wants to type their horsies - and we have lots of them - but I thought I'd better post this to start a discussion on whether we as a group can exercise a bit of restraint somehow? What do people think? -- Rhapsodie 09:35, 3 August 2008 (BST)
- I, the proud non-owner of a Trawler, support this! PotatoEngineer 18:21, 3 August 2008 (BST)
- Pity, really. I assume nobody has extras for sale? S. Mackie 18:29, 3 August 2008 (BST)
- If you provide my alt Shan at the earth city trading post with the materials (plus some extras, so I can give more away for free) I'd be glad to produce a trawler for you. --Ade 18:40, 3 August 2008 (BST)
- Although one does not need jellyfish to type a horsie. Hooves work for jelly too, without the need to put to sea. Syagrius 20:17, 3 August 2008 (BST)
- That's not the case. Jelly and Jelly Fish are quite different. An Agar Dish requires a Jelly Fish, not Jelly. -- Sertularian 20:20, 3 August 2008 (BST)
- However, if you find evidence that Jelly is a useful substitute, please edit the wiki accordingly. S. Mackie 19:23, 4 August 2008 (BST)

Eating candy gives one HP at the cost of one AP. --Ade 12:28, 1 August 2008 (BST)
Win a trawler (over)
We need to find jelly fish for horsie genome sequencing. The few of us are dedicated, but our AP is finite. As such I have started a contest in honor of our latest birthday bash.
I have trawler plans. My alt, Shan, is at the trading post next to the party. If you provide this character with any appreciable quantity of trawler materials (i.e. 20 copper nails or 10 bronze nails or 50 pieces of wood, etc.) your name will be entered into a drawing. The winner of the drawing will receive one brand new trawler, so long as they update the wiki if they find jellyfish. If I receive enough materials for two or more trawlers, there will of course be more winners. Of course you will need to construct your own net, but this goes a long way toward getting you sea worthy!
Wiki bonus: If the winner of the contest uses their trawler, finds jelly fish and documents it on the wiki complete with coordinates, character alignment and method used, they will be awarded 100,000 gold as well as a free pwny of their choice from Starr's Stables once the next generation is birthed.
Drawing will commence within 24 in game hours. --Ade 02:31, 1 August 2008 (BST)
- If I drop the whole set on you, will you hand me back a trawler? I don't have the plans. Billz8 02:47, 2 August 2008 (BST)
- You can update where you've trawled here. We're trying to coordinate where we look to at least some extent. -- Rhapsodie 02:45, 1 August 2008 (BST)
- I can't really do much now, but I notice on the Jelly page that hooves can be rendered down into jellies in large amounts with a cauldron. Perhaps you could open up a lesser contest for players with less of an ability to go fishing for collecting lots of hooves?--LimeHan 07:09, 1 August 2008 (BST)
- Is there a use for jelly? I was under the impression that a jelly fish was needed for horse genetics (agar dishes), and that secondary benefits of catching jelly fish were just short of moot. S. Mackie 08:49, 1 August 2008 (BST)
- Ah nevermind, I made an assumption that it was jelly you needed, not jellyfish. My bad.--LimeHan 10:07, 1 August 2008 (BST)
- If you had an Inseine net is it possible to fishh from a sea horsie? ford_prefect 10:18, 1 August 2008 (BST)
- I don't believe so. Phw 22:05, 1 August 2008 (BST)
- Contest is over! Sorry it took so long to put together, but I needed to build two of the buggers! Winners are: Sgt. Duke BernardBlack MD (who was given his trawler at the trading post a moment ago) and Cpl. Duke Incen MD (who I just palantir'd). Congratulations! --Ade 01:53, 3 August 2008 (BST)

XML Additions
Any chance of the new quests being added into the XML so I can update my 4cities tool? It's looking very forlorn atm :( --Duke angelsk MD 13:57, 28 July 2008 (BST)
Big Dragons
Tarot deck now has Big Water and Air Dragons. Seem to be in Oz. --Ade 22:57, 19 July 2008 (BST)
- All five species of Big Dragons (including Ice) have been seen on Dragon
Island. No word of Shrimp, Sewage, Neutral, or Goth varieties, though... -- Thog 23:29, 19 July 2008 (BST)- After an epic flight courtesy of a winged horsie I've discovered just that. I noticed Elan was on the top of a table just after I posted here. The drops don't seem to be terribly good. --Ade 23:32, 19 July 2008 (BST)
Using Glyphs
Anyone figured out how to use the glyphs? They don't work at alchemists, and they didn't seem to work at the uni, but I didn't do a thorough job of combing through the place. Corellis 9:00, 16 Jul 2008 (EST)
- Don't even know what they are supposed to do, but perhaps you need to have a certain number or they need to be combined with other items do function. Items which may not be implemented yet.

Pwny Pairings for Science!
We need more data to test the pwny colour theory we've got. If you're thinking of breeding your horsie and have no other goals in mind (or if you're only thinking of alignment and don't mind what colour the other horsie is), the pairings we need more of are Gray-Black and Gray-Chestnut. (Sorry to the Pinto owners!) Currently both of these crosses have resulted only in pinto offspring, which the theory says is statistically unlikely. -- Rhapsodie 03:43, 12 July 2008 (BST)
