Freshwater Fishing

You can fish with a Fishing Rod for 16 AP, or a Fishing Net for 8 AP on (most) freshwater squares, except for the Temple of Water in Water City. You can also fish in the Sewers for 5AP, without a Rod or Net equipped, but you have a chance of catching nothing there.

A Fishing Rod is apparently required to fish in the Sewers. You don't need to hold it, just have it in your inventory. Holding it or the net doesn't change the cost. Kaos Dragon 01:00, 21 December 2007 (GMT)

What you fish depends on your current alignment:

Fire Earth Air Water
Lion Fish Eel Flying Fish Cod

Other things that might be caught include

This seems to be more likely in the Pool of the Mountain King; I fished a bunch of times (7ish?), and all I got was an Old Boot. Could just have been bad luck though!
  • Nothing
From the New Stuff page: Fishing has been changed to work like mining now. It takes more AP to fish, but you're now guaranteed something for doing it.
What about in the Sewers? Does equipping a Rod or Net change the outcome chances?

Deep Ocean Fishing

To fish in deep ocean squares, you need a Trawler and Inseine Net. Fishing costs 10AP per attempt and it's not always guaranteed that you'll be successful.

Oysters can be caught by any alignment, randomly on (apparently) any deep ocean square.

Other fish can be caught by any alignment if they are present on a given square, but can only be seen in the water if you are of certain alignments - or have someone of that alignment as a passenger on your trawler. See the trawler page for more information.

Fire Earth Air Water
Sword Fish Tuna Fish Porpoise Jelly Fish
  • Fishes for minor alignments also exist. See the trawler page for more information.

Lost World Fishing

Fishing in murky lakes costs three times as much as fishing in regular lakes and yields different results:

Fire Earth Air Water
Sabre-Toothed Tiger Shark Trilobite Bucket of Planckton Primordial Soup

Catching a Bucket of Planckton consumes a bucket. In addition, you may find a Mammonite, or an Old Boot.

The outcome of fishing in a murky lake depends on your alignment. Assuming you are Air, your catch will be 54.16% Planckton; 4.16% Trilobite; 8.3% of Sabre-Toothed, Primordial Soup, & Mammonite each; & a 16.6% chance of catching an Old Boot. If you consider that Old Boots cost no AP to haul in, the numbers resolve to an agreeable 65%, 5%, 10%, 10%, & 10%, respectively, with an additional (AP-free) 20% chance of the boot.

If you have no bucket when "catching" planckton, then you gain nothing and don't lose any AP.

Question: Given handy options such as plowing/sowing/harvesting fields and the Satanic Gardens in Brighthelm to obtain non-aligned plant products, are there equivalents for obtaining non-aligned fish other than simply buying them? --Tiltowait 15:01, 29 December 2006 (GMT)

Other than trade with other players, not at the moment, no.
Though Alignment change would work, correct? --Tiltowait 17:45, 31 January 2007 (GMT)
Yes ofcourse. --Bubba_the_Shy 20:11, 25 February 2007 (GMT)

Another question is whether fishing in the Fish Pond in Water City has lower chances of getting an Old Boot? I fished there approximately ten times, and had no encounter with an Old Boot. --yehman 22:02, 23 June 2007 (BST)

I got an Old Boot there, but it could still be lower probability. More data would be needed. --Greycat 15:10, 16 July 2007 (BST)
I fished 23 times today, got 21 fish and 2 Old Boots. Flt 09:19, 4 September 2007 (BST)
