Quest:Military Service
From Cities
- Prerequisite: You must be at least a Knight, Trophy Cabinet.
- Reward: New titles, increased damage multiplier
- Cost: 50 Pieces of Wood, 50 Iron Nails, 10 Pieces of Molten Glass and 100 AP from an Armourer to make a Trophy Cabinet
Kill lots of monsters and become eligible to join the army and rise through the ranks.
At the Hunting Lodge:
General Cooke is here. He is large, impressive bald man. He is naked except for a pair of pink Y-fronts. "A lot of people will tell you that the military is all about war, and I guess that's alright as far as it goes, but we've not had a decent war in a long time." The General makes as if to twirl a handlebar mustache, but he doesn't have one so just scratches his nose instead. "These days we mostly judge soldiers by the quality of their trophy cabinet."
Get an Armourer to make you a New Cabinet.
Upon opening a New Cabinet, it turns into a Trophy Cabinet.
- When you kill something new:
You add the trophy to your case!
- Note: You get this message whether or not the monster is actually in the list of monsters needed for the quest.
- Selecting the Trophy Cabinet will tell you which monsters you need and which ones you've already killed.

Quest Stages
Note: Please update the monster-killing threshholds if you can narrow it down!
Stage One: Joining the Army
You need to have killed and collected 109 monsters (69 left) to join the army:
Civilian, that's a nice cabinet, and starting to look respectable. You're the kind that might make it in the forces.
Joining takes 50AP. You get the title Private (Pvt), and your damage multiplier increases by one. This damage multiplier increase does not apply to Apprentices after initiation into wizardry.
Stage Two: Promotion to Corporal
You need to have killed and collected 149 monsters (29 left) for your first promotion:
Well done Private! Want a promotion?
Getting promoted takes 100AP. You get the title Corporal (Cpl.), and your damage multiplier increases by one.
Stage Three: Promotion to Sergeant
- 173 monsters killed (5 left) is not enough for another promotion.
- 174 monsters killed (4 left) is:
Looking good, Corporal. Time for a promotion!
Getting promoted takes 150AP. You get the title Sergeant (Sgt.), and your damage multiplier increases by one.
After this, General Cooke says:
I'm afraid no more promotions are currently available.
The Monsters
- There are some monsters that do not appear on the list. These include astral plane monsters (e.g. ophannim), demons, pirates, fairies, wizard-only monsters (e.g. imp), manic minotaurs, alligators, sewer rats, histas, ancient castle guards, ancients, einherjars, hydras, heavenly dragons, road runners, stinkers, and vindaloo monsters. Basically, this means that once you sign up for the quest, you should start killing everything in sight.
- Hmm, looks like coral snakes aren't on the list, but the rest of the snakes are...
- I just killed a Coral Snake. It gave me the trophy message, and I have two distinct "Garter Snake" entries crossed off. Azuaron 01:50, 22 April 2007 (BST)
- As stated directly below, all monsters give the trophy message even if they aren't needed for the Cabinet. I believe the second Garter Snake is really a Slowworm. --Dragon 02:08, 22 April 2007 (BST)

- Some monsters give you the trophy message even though they do not appear on the list (e.g. ants, rabbits).
- Pigs in Harvey's Farm do not count towards your Trophies. I assume these are tame pigs instead of the more wild boars running in the forest. --JeffLD 05:39, 3 June 2007 (BST)
- The pig I slew in Harvey's Farm counted - you might have still been seeing the entry for flying pigs which is just listed as pig in the cabinet --Bel3338 15:23, 19 June 2007 (BST)
Most Common Monster Location
This might help you organize your hunting. Feel free to correct the wrong ones and relocate the uncertain ones. --JAD 21:06, 17 April 2007 (BST)

* Chickens can also be found in Harvey Farm (if you've completed the quest.)
Goth seems to be limited to the actual dungeon under Harvey Farm. I spend about 4 weeks hunting for one in the Southwest Tunnels and didn't find one. I cleared and searched the dungeon for only two days until i found a Goth there. If someone else found one in the actual Southwest Tunnels, please remove this post. --Schwarz 12:29, 13 August 2007 (BST)
Un-achievable
If you find a monster on here that's non-existent, or unkillable, add it to the list below, and we'll review in a couple of weeks. Darksatanic 16:56, 17 April 2007 (BST)
- Shrieking Harpy
- Not impossible -- you just need to create the right conditions. Darksatanic 17:09, 17 April 2007 (BST)
- Woolly Mammoth
- Can now be found in the Frozen North, I found mine just north of the Research Centre. Sir Garry 01:44, 2 May 2007 (BST)
- Golem (not impossible)
- I'd suggest bribing a friendly wizard... Stoo 21:13, 17 April 2007 (BST)
- Kangeroo - Never seen one of these, and I haven't yet glimpsed it in the Tarot Deck. PotatoEngineer 07:38, 3 June 2007 (BST)
- Currently seen as 'Kangaroo' on my Trophy Need List. --Bubba_the_Shy 12:12, 22 August 2007 (BST)
- Is is possible to bag a Loucee if you've already been to the clouds?
- - you can go back to the clouds as many times as you want. MrFoo 17:45, 17 April 2007 (BST)
- Adolescent Tortoise - not able to be killed (Does killing an Eating Tortoise count)?
- Yes. Darksatanic 21:27, 17 April 2007 (BST)
- Shrimp - Isn't this only doable by Wizards? Or dukes willing to repeatedly bribe a wizard for a properly-enchanted Eye Pod? The ophannim are easier to get to, and they're off the list.
- It is possible, but you need a wizard's help, and it's somewhat tricky even then. --Dragon 16:35, 21 April 2007 (BST)
- After obtaining a Trophy Cabinet as a Knight, you could then become a Wizard, head to the Alternate Ocean on your own, and kill a shrimp. This would - as far as I know - fulfill the obligation. Although, you'd then have to change back to a Knight to gain any benefit. Snare 22:02, 13 July 2007 (BST)
- It's much easier then that Redsnare, have you read this by the way?
