If you have less than 100 kudos then you will usually gain at least one every night at midnight.

If you have more than 100 kudos then you will usually lose one every night at midnight. You might not lose any kudos at all that night or you might lose multiple kudos at midnight.

Kudos can be negative.

Only briefly, it seems. At 0 kudos (no Kudos in my inventory at all) I can go to -1 from clubbing a seal, which also restores the [diabolic] tag which 0 kudos doesn't show, but it doesn't show 'Kudos x -1' in my inventory and moving returns me to 0 Kudos. Ream 18:33, 28 December 2008 (GMT)

Kudos can be given away to other players. They do not need to be present.

You give a Kudos by selecting it from your item list, then typing in the user's name you want to give it to (be sure to omit any titles, such as "Sir" or "MD").

There are other ways to gain/lose kudos.

The intended use for kudos is this: You need to find a pinata. Somebody summons you to one, but then does not want to get the hassle of meeting up to arrange their reward, so when you next log in, you just assign them one or more kudos as thanks.

Kudos may not be stolen or placed in markets. It can however be privately sold. If you want to trade all your Kudos for Gold, why not? Cameron did.

Here's an interesting catch. Kudos may not be given to people who've logged in from the same IP address as you. These people are assumed to be people you know in real life, and can thank in other ways. We suggest for every 3 kudos you would have given them, you buy them a pint of beer.

Kudos can, and should, also be given for people being helpful, answering questions, or even if you notice them doing good work on the wiki.


Gaining Kudos

  • At midnight if your kudos is less than 100.
  • Being given it by another player. You get a message from whom, as well as the reason if they told it.
  • Donating a corpse to the K.O.T. gives you 2 kudos.
  • One each day if you have a gladiator in the Arena
  • If you host a Free Party you gain 5 kudos each time a player joins.
  • Completing a quest, apparently

Losing Kudos

  • Attempting to harvest another character's field when they are present.
  • At midnight if your kudos is more than 100.
  • Giving it away to another player.
  • Being dis'ed, or being the dis'er.
  • Dying : costs you 10 kudos
  • You lose Kudos if you take items off a corpse (that is not your own).
  • You lose Kudos if you kill cute seals (although you don't lose any if the seal misses you)
  • You give 5 Kudos to the organiser of a Free Party when you join, although, the kudos aren't taken from your total.
  • You lose 1 Kudos for throwing poop at someone, you lose 1 Kudos if you are thrown poop at.
I used a Triffid Sting and it said I was naughty and took away 1 or 2 (can't remember). Why is that? Is it like using drugs? I was annoyed. Jatt 01:09, 17 February 2006 (GMT)

Effects of Kudos

Current Effects

  • If your kudos are high enough you can use a Blessed Sword.
  • If your kudos are low enough you can use a Cursed Sword.
  • If you have >130 Kudos you gain a Pouch of Magic Herbs when you smoke a pipe with Dr. Karma.


How about Karma Kudos effecting either damage dealt to chance to hit? @100 Kudos things are uneffected but drop below or above that and the amount of damage you do or chance to hit is effect proportionally to the difference. So @80 Kudos your chance to hit is reduced by 20% (maybe 20% of your base not -20%) or you only do 80% of your regular damage. Personally, I like the idea of a small amount of extra AP. Especially since a great many of the things you're likely to be given kudos for cost AP such as summoning, healing, and such. Happy messages are nice and all, but since there's actual giving involved rather than just palantiring "thanks" it would be nice to have a tangible reward to go with it. Maybe there could be the option to use a kudos and get a random miscellanious reward such as extra AP, extra health, maybe minor detox (like a point off caffeine tolerance)... something like dragon's blood but without the bad possibilities and a whole lot weaker. the idea of community praise and/or disdain is interesting, but the limit of 7 (high or low) nightly is a bit strange. as i said above i beat up a bunch of seals taking up room on my beach - i guess i see where that probably isnt kudo worthy, they were pretty helpless - but maybe there could be positives to either high or low kudos. maybe you should get benefits for being solidly "good" or "bad" and not middle of the road. Kudos doesn't reset to 7 daily, it only moves one point towards 7 daily. If you have 10 Kudos now, tomorrow you'll have 9, the day after you'll have 8, and after that you'll have 7 (unless you gain/lose some along the way).
