Monster Quick Reference Table

General

Certain monsters always have a given alignment, whereas some don't. Attacks against vulnerable elements are stronger: see Combat. Almost all can have their alignment magically changed.

The numbers in brackets are typical HP values for the monsters. You may see monsters with lower HP than given here: that probably means someone had a go at them and got bored, ran out of AP, etc., leaving you a weakened one. If you see one with more HP, that may mean that the original reporter saw a weakened one, so please update (except the Phoenix, see which).

Monster Drops are determined in the following way:

OK, here's how it works. Monsters are created with stuff when they're spawned. They may gain stuff as they get older -- but only from killing people, or stealing it, in the case of Thieves. Each class of monster has a fixed menu of stuff that it might be given. Most of these menus are standard lists of differing sizes, contents and probabilities. Each list will generate one item, plus the chance of something from a smaller list, and the chance of something from a larger list (and those each then have the same chances). So there's always the possibility that a worm will be given a Space Rocket, but it's really pretty remote (0.00048% or so, if you _must_ know). Pinatas draw from four different lists, of three different sizes, which is pretty unusual, and a lot more stuff than most creatures get given. Darksatanic 15:43, 22 March 2006 (GMT)

Once a monster is killed, the path it guards remains empty for some time, ranging from hours to days (or more), then another monster (possibly of the same type, possibly different) spawns in the same place. For detailed information on how monsters spawn, see Monster Spawning Rules.

Earth Monsters

Earth creatures are most common in forests and jungles.

  • Earth Worm (1 HP, 1 damage) Turns into a Dying Earth Worm when it is about to die of old age.
  • Esquilax (7 HP, 1 damage)
  • Gnome (10 HP, 2 damage)
  • GNU (50 HP, 1 damage)
  • Triffid (50 HP, 20 damage) May cause 1 point of poisoning on a successful attack. Drops triffid stings.
You lose 1HP per level of poison on the hour.
You can't die from poison -- you stay at 1HP once you've got down that far.
You can cure poison with a Dose of Antidote (cures 2 poison levels), with a visit to Jude in Brighthelm, or by dying. One of the effects of Dragon Blood (The Dragon Blood detoxes your own blood) will also cure poison.
Yes, you get a one-time 10AP at the time of poisoning.
  • Bull (100 HP, 3 damage)
  • Small Earth Dragon (250 HP, 5 damage, 1 attack)
  • Earth Dragon (400HP, 10 damage, 1 attack)
  • Minotaur (250 HP, 3 damage) Is found in the tunnels. Is naturally angry (aligning it won't let you pass).
  • Tundra Troll (400HP, 5 damage, 1 attack) Is found in the Frozen North. Regenerates 1-200HP every time it hits you.
  • Manic Minotaur (500-1500 HP, 10 damage) Is found in the tunnels. Gives you +1 Kudos when you kill him and respawns very quickly in the same area. Drops a Southwest-Tunnel Map.

  • SMALL EARTH DEMON (500 HP) Its successful attack drains 2 points of your max HP. Found in the tunnels.
  • EARTH DEMON (1000 HP) Its successful attack drains 2 points of your max HP. Found in the tunnels.

Air Monsters

Air creatures are most common on crags and mountains.

  • Sparrow A Sparrow has (1 HP, 1 damage)
  • Name the Parrot a Parrot(6 HP, 1 damage) Say its name to get a gold piece (as it flies off). Hit it with a Reznor blade, and it'll say what you sang.
Repeats everything said/sang in its presence with 90% probability (not 100%, to avoid infinite loops with two parrots).
Slap it with a fish and it'll drop cool stuff. It also might drop nothing at all. :(
  • Sylph (10 HP, 2 damage)
  • Thunder Bird (30 HP, 2 damage, 2 attacks)
  • Eagle (50 HP, 2 damage, 2 attacks) Has also been seen on a Lunar Mountain.
  • Roc (180 HP, 5 damage, 6 attacks) Drops Roc Rocks.
  • Small Air Dragon (100 HP, 4 damage, 3 attacks)
  • Air Dragon (200 HP, 5 damage, 6 attacks)
  • Big Air Dragon (1000 HP, 20 damage, 6 attacks). Is found only on Dragon Island.
  • Blizzard (500 HP) Is found in the far North. If it hits you, it transports you to a random area somewhere nearby and comes with you. Also leaves you spinning and gives you a bit of frostbite.

The Blizzard that I defeated left me off shore in the ocean off Monster Island. I broke a Earth Stone to transport away. However the effect of the Blizzard continues as I get this message with each move. "Everything's spinning! You are too hot. You go West. You can't stop shivering."   • SMALL AIR DEMON (500 HP, 2 attacks) Successful attack drains 1 point from your max AP. Found in the tunnels.
  • AIR DEMON (1000 HP, 2 attacks) Successful attack drains 2 points from your max AP. Found in the tunnels.

Fire Monsters

Fire creatures are most common in badlands and deserts.

  • Glow Worm (1 HP, 1 damage, 1 attack) Replaced the firefly. It lets you pass when you have 1500 experience.
  • Salamander (10 HP, 2 damage, 1 attack)
  • Fire Fox (30 HP, 4 damage, 1 attack)

  • Lion (40 HP, 7 damage, 1 attack)
  • Pheonix (10*gen#, 1 + .5 * gen# * (gen# -1) damage, 1 attack) - Pheonices regenerate with 70% probability if their HP is below 10 after they're hit with something. So, beat 'em to within an inch of their life then watch as they get all better. And bigger. And featherier. The higher the generation the harder they hit.
Gen1 and Gen2 have no feathers.
Genn has (n-1)*(n-2)/2 feathers.
Genn has ((n-1) * 3) units of Charcoal.
Genn has 50(n-1)(n+2) + (starting gold).
Genn does d(n) damage, where d(n) = 1 + 1/2 n (n-1) (I was way stupid Snarfer)

The current (known) record for Pheonix slaying is gen. 80 for the old, less-damaging version.

Careful, when he respawns with a new generation he will attack with the new damage in the same round.

  • Small Fire Dragon (150 HP, 8 damage, 1 attack)
  • Fire Dragon (300 HP, 15 damage, 1 attack)
  • Big Fire Dragon (3000 HP, 60 damage, 1 attack). Is found on Dragon Island. Currently appears as "Fire Dragon".
  • SMALL FIRE DEMON (500 HP, successful attack drains 1 point from your accuracy, 1 attack) Is found in the tunnels.
  • FIRE DEMON (1000 HP, successful attack drains 2 points from your accuracy) Is found in the tunnels.
  • Fire Fly Extinct; gone but not forgotten.
  • Aurora Borealis (150) 10 damage. Is found only in the Frozen North.
  • Aurora Boreanaz (150) 10 damage. Is found only in the Frozen North. Drains life force! Unlike Aurora Borealis, it is hostile to fire aligned players. Can be staked with a pointy stick

Water Monsters

Water creatures are most common in lakes and swamps.

  • Toad (1 HP, 1 damage)
  • Duck (6 HP, 1 damage). Drops 2 Feathers and 0-3 Magic Beans.
  • Undine (10 HP, 2 damage)
  • Penguin (30 HP, 3 damage)
    • Oddly, the only water-aligned monster that will not allow a water aligned player to pass it. Are they lost? Brandy 7:15pm November 23,2008
The "Open Source" monsters (Fire Fox, Gnu, Thunder Bird and Penguin) are hostile to everyone. -- Sertularian 20:14, 23 November 2008 (GMT)
  • Angel (30 HP) 5 damage.
  • Crocodile (150 HP, 10 damage) Drops Crocodile scales.
  • Clockodile (150 HP, 10 damage) The result of using a Pocket Watch on a Crocodile.
  • Small Water Dragon (150 HP, 5 damage)
  • Water Dragon (300 HP, 10 damage)
  • Big Water Dragon (3000 HP, 40 damage) Is found on Dragon Island.
  • Arctic Undine (400 HP, 10 damage). Is found in the Frozen North. When wounded, sometimes freezes into a Frozen Undine (see ice monsters).
  • Serpent Head (800 HP, 5 damage). Is found in the Pool of the Mountain King in the north-west tunnels - four heads clustered around a square marked "Great Serpent". Fast respawn.
  • Dolphin (3000 HP, 15 damage). Drops a Brand Identity. "Monster"s (with 777 HP) often turn into them.
  • SMALL WATER DEMON (500 HP, 25 damage) Is found in the tunnels and pits.
  • WATER DEMON (1000 HP, 50 damage) Is found in the tunnels.

Spirit Monsters

These monsters have a white background, but you can see them without using any special gear. Also, they don't have invisible bracketed underneath their name in game.

  • Lost Spirit (1) 10 damage
  • Spelling Fly (1) 1 damage. Can only be attacked while in Toad form, and drops a spell.
  • Spelling Bee (30) 2 damage (swarm of 30 1HP bees)

Attacks multiple times. Your tongue will do only 1 damage so you'll have to strike 30 times. Can only be attacked while in Toad form, thus (as you can't wield a wand) you also cannot align it for an advantage. Drops several (e.g. 6) spells.

  • Gygax (100) 15 damage. Is found in underground tunnels, around the Death Mountains, caves, and the Thieves Forest. Alignment has no effect.
If you attack him with dice, you inflict damage equal to a die-roll. Gygax then returns the favor. You can miss, however (and so can he). You can change his alignment with wands (just watch out for the 15 damage counterattack) [don't bother since alignment doesn't matter]. Sometimes he gets mad at your dice-rolls and snatches your dice away! --Kenndogg 21:08, 1 March 2006 (GMT)
can be hit by normal weapons but with only a fraction of the damage
Weapons do 1/9th to 1/10th their normal damage. Note: Gygax(es?)are vulnerable to stronger alignments only when attacked with weapons. The bonus is not applied to dice rolls/attacks.
Originally neutral-aligned; newly-spawned Gygaxes are now Spirit-aligned as of 5 March 2008.
  • Loucee (200) 5 damage
  • Vampire (150) Does 10 damage and subtracts experience points, but can be passed by wielding garlic, or killed with a pointy stick (and you lose the stick).
Killing a Vampire with a pointy stick does not get rewarded with XP
Sadly, steaks are ineffective.

I thought these things drain 10 AP rather and experience points. Can anyone remember?
Just got drained for 25 XP
  • Undead Dragon (1500) 20 base damage - not only hits hard but sometimes drains 2-3 max hit points when it hits, or/and drains 5-10 AP, or/and additionaly does 5 tail damage, or/and 2 max AP, or/and 1000 XP. Yikes! Is impervious to Glass Swords, and Golden Guns. Lances and Bows work well. The Midas Wand does work; that was how I bagged one. No experience points, but the money makes up for it.
"Wands "sort of" work - you can change the UD's alignment, but it changes back very quickly."

  • Gorgan (10,000) DMG 10(?) Found on The Isle of the Gorgan. Can "kill" with a single blow. You wake up in the Water Hospital with no Exp but all your stuff. However if you equip a mirror before fighting her then she only does 10 damage.

Is affected by alignment changes but not vulnerable to any particular weapon (except that a Vorpal Blade can snicker-snack as usual).

Glass swords work fine.

First time I used a Midas wand, it did about 900 damage (knocking it down to 8000) and said "The Gorgan starts to gold but the change doesn't take.". I tried a second time, and this time it killed it. --Sam 21:06, 29 March 2008 (GMT)


Drops a Gorgons head.

You can also kill a lot of monsters in one blow of a Gogan's head, turning them to stone.

Important Note: If your vision has been switched by a mirror monster, this counts as holding a mirror when you're attacking the Gorgan. If you're switched and holding the mirror, you'll earn yourself a swift trip to the water city hospital. The gorgan has a mean respawn rate of once every 24 hours.

Apparently, having reversed vision from having done 4 or 5 steps of Quest:Pandora's_Socks also negates the special attack. I have not checked other angles. Having that and a mirror, which turns vision back to normal, makes the special attack work again. --Plopfill 17:53, 20 October 2013 (BST)

Wizard Monsters

These monsters are only visible to the mage classes, and can only be damaged by them.

  • Imp (100) 50 damage. Is only visible to wizards (of any level). Drops mana and spells.

Immune to all weapons and most spells. Their kryptonite involves a bad pun.

  • Imp-ending Kick — does 100 damage; this knowledge is important when fighting duck-billed imps
  • Imp-ending Slap — does 25 damage
  • Nodule (1) 0 damage. Is only visible to Apprentices. Drops 1-2 mana
  • Node (1) 0 damage. Is only visible to Shamans. Drops 3-8 mana.
  • Nexus (1) 0 damage. Is only visible to Wizards. Drops 9-26 mana.

Huge Reptile (some word) (5) 20 damage. Spell the word using dissolved letters to cause 1 point of damage. Always drops a Plot Hook, Plot Device, Plot Twist, or Plot Point. There is much fun to be had with these monsters.

The creature was about fifty feet tall, with wide lapels, long dangling participles, and a pronounced gazetteer.  
"Aiyee!" shouted Legolam.  "A Thesaurus!"
"Maim!" roared the monster.  "Mutilate, mangle, crush.  SEE HARM."

Plot Bunny (8000-20000) 50 damage. Is only visible to Shamans. Is found on islands in The Crill Sea. Is only damaged by Plot weapons. Always drops a Story.

Invisible Monsters

You must be able to see invisible monsters - either by an intrinsic ability, by using a Spirit Sword, by wearing a pair of Beer Goggles, or by using the Ghost Hunter Gear.

Question: Do the beer googles function the same way as getting drunk? Can you use it to see Djinn, Mists or Bling Wraiths?

I just tried to use a pair of Beer Goggles + a Magic Opal to check on a Bling Wraith's HP, and I couldn't see the Wraith just using the goggles. Stevie-O 01:49, 9 April 2006 (BST)
The beer googles probably function the same way as getting drunk, which means you can only see Ghost, not any other invisibles like mists, bling wraiths or djinn. -- LittleHamster 10:19, 9 April 2006 (BST)
I think the beer googles work much the same as the yahoo! lagers!

Ghosts

These are the ones that you can kill with the Ghost Hunter Gear.

  • Dark Mist (100) HP/5 damage (I think)
The damage from the Dark Mist drops until you kill it (which makes it a good way to figure out how many more times you need to hit it before it will die). It usually doesn't drop anything of value. DWE 18:45, 28 March 2006 (BST)
  • Ghost (5) does 2 damage; Can potentially drop lots of good stuff.

  • Hungry Ghost (150) 10 damage. Eats your vittles (and magic beans), and drains 20% XP (if it sucks your life juices). Best killed while wearing a diamond bling and wielding your large weapon of choice. Drops a decent number of items (many of which are quite mundane), but it isn't worth it if you kill it the slow way with a spirit sword.
Attacking a Hungry Ghost with a Spirit Catcher nets you a Bound Spirit. Snare 22:02, 24 May 2007 (BST)

Also, the Hungry Ghost gets one more attack in after you catch it; similar to catching the Snark in a Sack and hitting a parrot with a fish before it flies off. Snare 21:00, 13 June 2007 (BST)
Ah, but in the same vein, if you have a pet capable of killing the Hungry Ghost you may get your bound spirit and kill the ghost. Then it cannot attack you, and you get the mundane junk of the normal kill. (This also works with Parrots.)density 19:42, 20 September 2007 (BST)
  • Mist (65) 0 damage, drops nothing
  • Wisp (200) 5 damage. Gives XP and drops an Arena Talisman.
Wisps and Hungry Ghosts can also be caught with Ghost Traps.

Other Invisibles

  • Bling Wraith (5000-10000) 5-60 damage.
    Damage is 5 plus 5 per different type of bling you have in your inventory (including any in bags). Bling Wraiths are not fooled by a mere piece of cloth. They sense the power you possess and they crave it for their own.
    I just fought one and it hit me for 65 damage per attack. Ouch. What's the ACTUAL damage limit? - SamSwashbuck
    Ah, right, there's the charming feature that if you have a fire bling in your bag, a fire bling in your inventory, and are wearing a fire bling... it counts fire blings THREE TIMES. PotatoEngineer 21:44, 27 September 2009 (BST)
    Each time you hit one, there is a chance that it will become angry and thus visible (and so can be hit with any weapon; like a wand and a glass sword).
    You can also wear a diamond bling and attack it directly.
    Drops one or more blings.
    Experience is independent of the number of blings in your inventory (i.e. 5/hp, even if they do 50 damage)
    Hitting it with a Ghost Hunter Gear:
You attack the Bling Wraith.
That's not a ghost!
The Bling Wraith causes 5 points of damage
  • Seems it goes invisible if you wait too long.
  • colour Djinn (5000) 5/25 damage
    After a few hits the Djinn becomes visible (and annoyed) doing 25 damage instead of 5, but they can revert. They are vulnerable to glass swords, golden guns, and wands of alignment. Pageturner Friday, March 3 7:55 pm
    Drops Pouches of Magic Herbs and Magic Carpets.
    A Bottle of Tonic Water does 500 damage - regardless of what alignment you give the djinn.
  • Manatee (20000) 30 damage
    Vulnerable to Alignment Wands and Glass Swords. I killed two, both dropped a Magic-Good which showed up in my inventory under Meta. Jon 03:11, 15 September 2006 (BST)
    Hitting repeatedly with a spirit sword won't make it visible, and it can't be seen through beer goggles; so the intrinsic ability to see invisibles or a diamond bling would seem to be pretty much essential. Nuru nuru 21:20, 12 December 2006 (JST)

  • Fiend (2535-2690) 6-10 damage. Drops a Fiend skull. This monster only spawns on the path between two cursed fields.

Forest Monsters

The 250HP Thieves do 10 damage, attempt to steal something from you and move.
The 450HP Thieves do 20 damage, attempt to steal something from you and move. In addition, when they move they become invisible for 1 minute, though if you have see invisible intrinsic then you can see them.
You can get your stolen items back from their shop located just a few squares East from the Thieves' Den.
Sometimes the Thieves keep the items though, in which case one simply needs to slay it.

The 450HP Thieves aren't limited to trying to steal your weapon. I tried to align one with an Earth Wand, and he took my Summon Stone. Later on, he nicked my copy of Space Cadet. When I finally killed him, I got the Stone back but not the book. parking_god 17:21, 6 March 2008 (GMT)

I just killed a basic thief in the thieves' forest, and he said, "With my last breath I curse Baron Mara" as he died. What does that mean? he was only at 110 HP, but there was no one else around and it was in my way so i killed it. so does that mean mara attacked him first? weird. Jatt 00:42, 28 March 2006 (BST)

Copperisblue told me that the thief will curse the first person that attacked it, he's been cursed many times. I was cursed once by a strange swimming thief. I wrote a story about it and put it on my character page(click my name). Skold 18:12, 9 August 2006 (BST)

The following trees will drop 1 piece of specialized wood per 100hp. It appears that Misril, Silver, and Bronze Axes do x5 damage (x10 when aligned). This does not apply to Treemen (who are only affected by Copper Axes).

  • Oak Tree (100-1800?) 1 Damage. Found this one in the Thieves Forest. Copper axe does x4 damage after aligning. Drops Pieces of Oak (but the game tells you they are pieces of wood, until you look in your inventory).

I got 9 pieces of Holly from a Holly Tree. It might be that the type of wood is only identified after it's in your inventory rather than when it drops.

My tarot deck seems to work just fine with them right now, and I mostly didn't have to walk more than 5 squares from one treeman to the next. Last time I went hunting treemen was before six months or so, they were normally listed on the deck but the closest one was like 100 squares away -- it actually looked just like the regular unbalancing that happens when people hunt only one type of monster. Martial arts are the best weapons against Ninjas. You can align them with wands, however, they can disarm and steal your wands.

  • Loucee (200) Is found in the Clouds. 5 damage. Gives Diamonds. Obviously the Loucee's parents couldn't spell very well.

Yes after extensive fox hunts, I have determined that the Fox has a multiple of 20 hit points (up to 100 or 5x20), and does the multiple of damage (between 1 and 5). So, the HP/Damage ratios are 20/1, 40/2, 60/3, 80/4 and 100/5 -- Melchitt
  • Mimic Several sizes - hard to tell apart, as they all appear with your own name. Damage equal to the weapon you carry [except the Large Mimic which does 1.5 the damage] (including multiple attacks such as bows!)

Asteroids break into pieces and fill the free squares nearby with the next smaller version when defeated. The Really large Asteroids contains a power crystal which is carried over to the pieces. the smallest kind (asteroids) drop bits of metal and maybe other items.
Elementally aligned asteroids (of the larger varieties) split into similarly-aligned asteroids
  • Space Invader (500) 10 damage. No name, but you'll recognize it. They drop from quite a high level table, which include good stuff like alignment swords, alignment bows and emerald athames. Sometimes they even drop power crystals. Although it's also known to not drop anything sometimes as well.
As far as I can tell, the Earth space invader does not have extra HP. None of the space invaders seem to have the qualities inherent to their alignment (fire does not have extra attack, air does not have multiple attacks). However, I think that since Space is not tarotable and the monsters are rather hard to tell apart, that if you align a space invader, please kill it, or do not leave it aligned.   • Clanger (12) Apparently cannot be attacked, even while wielding a Wand of Anger or Cruel Blade (or even a Bucket)

Ice Monsters

Because ice is strong against every other alignment, they do double damage against players of other alignments while still ice.

  • Polar Bear (31-49) 1-7 damage
  • Frozen Undine (800) 5 damage. Starts out as a Arctic Undine (see water monsters), which can turn into a Frozen Undine if you attack it.
The arctic undine panics and freezes into a blinding white ice undine. You are dazzled.
This transformation hurts your eyes so that afterward, if you have no shades or snow goggles on, you are unable to see anything because it's too bright. Wearing Onyx Bling does not help. After 20 AP your vision returns to normal (your eyes stop hurting).
If you kill the Frozen Undine it appears on the monster-bashing league table as if you'd killed a regular Arctic Undine.
The arctic undine normally starts with 400 HP, and its current hit points are doubled when it freezes.
  • Tauntaun (250) 8 damage. Is instantly killed by a Light Sabre (naturally), or even a Dimmed Light Sabre (not so naturally). Upon killing one, the square you are standing on becomes a Tauntaun Corpse.
  • Woolly Mammoth (1260-1950) 4 damage. Doesn't hit very often, only spawns on "Tundra Roads", drops balls of wool.
  • Yeti (350) 4 damage. Preposterously low chance to hit you?

  • Acceleraptor (100) 3 attacks, 5 damage. Come in 'packs'; the last one sometimes drops a Barrel and/or a Power Crystal.
  • CSaur (1000) 1 attack, 10 damage
  • C++Saur (1001) 2 attacks, 11 damage
Attacking CSaurs and C++Saurs with an uninitialized pointer will cause a core dump, dealing 100 and 75 damage respectively. This feature is currently borken. Attacking with a Goat Ooh yields no special results.
  • Coldsaur (500) 5 damage. You feel a breath of cold run over you.
  • Displaciraptor (45) 1-2 attacks, 3 damage. Come in 'packs'; the last one sometimes drops a Jubilee Clip and/or 1-4 Pipe Cleaners.
  • Jigsaur (880) 5 damage. Breaks into Jigsaur Pieces when killed.
  • Jigsaur Piece (25) 2 damage. Takes a while to appear after the Jigsaur is killed.
Takes a bloody long while, from experience. At least several hours.
  • Hacksaur (2900) 4-20 damage.
  • Pterryanodon (250) 5 attacks, 4 damage
  • Runningsaur (350) 15 damage. Similarly to a cat, runs away if attacked for 25?+ damage.
28 damage does not make it run, but 32 does.
  • Velociraptor (70) 3 attacks, 3 damage. Come in 'packs'; the last one sometimes drops a Magazine and/or a Distraction Grating.
  • Whatthebutlersaur (4000) 10 damage. You (& your pets) deal double damage if you are kinky.

Sewer Monsters

  • Adolescent Tortoise (250 HP, various attacks/damage)
Must be fed a pizza slice before they become vulnerable (for a short time) to your puny weapons (roughly one minute?)

If you are trying to hunt mine monsters (and can't find any by just wandering around), your best bet is to mine with an eye to clearing a large number of paths. (Rather than, say, mining to clear a large number of tiles.)

Hista (20,000, 25 damage) Makes you sneeze.

Using an Anti-Hista insta-kills it.

Rocky Horror (15000, 12 damage) It is uninjured if you have a Kinky Fashion score of 0. Will also not be affected by the Head of the Gorgan unless you have a Kinky Fashion score above 0. Can be snicker-snacked if you have a Kinky Fashion score above 0. Drops a Time Warp and a Pair of Fishnets.

Oz Monsters

  • number Asbos (300 each) number+1 attacks at 10 damage each. Steals money (1000-2000 at a time), which you get back if you kill the monster. Asbos only carry several hundred gold; if you see it drop 10,000 or so gold, that's mostly your money.
  • Coca-Koala (400) 7 damage.
  • Duck-Billed (monster) Has 5*HP and deals 3*damage of regular monster. Counts as a regular monster in the kills table. Drops are that of a regular monster, but doubled (i.e. you get two of everything). Seems to always be hostile.
My personal favorite is "Duck-Billed Duck" and I had to laugh when I saw a "Duck-Billed Wisp." I also saw non-duck billed varieties of Ghost and Earth Worm, but they were also hostile. Droll 17:40, 28 August 2006 (BST)

  • Dimensional Shambler (23) If found on the normal plane of existence, does no damage but grabs you and takes you to the Astral Plane. On the Astral Plane, it deals 50 damage. It is unknown at this point if there are any weapons that bypass this 1/30 penalty (like dice for Gygaxes and copper for Treemen).

Special attack is something fierce. Weapons do 10% of normal damage. My water sword only did six damage to him while he was aligned to fire, likewise for my phaser. After he Locks the target, baits the line, and slowly spreads his net, and makes a successful attack, you find yourself trapped. Do these lyrics give a clue for dealing with the Head Hunter?.

The Stewpot is located just north of the Frozen North, and breaking a talisman while captured will teleport you to the 'Kingdom.
There is no known way to circumvent their attack or defensive bonus.
Head Hunters remember where they were at with their routine for individual characters. If you leave a Head Hunter with its net spread and someone else attacks it, the head hunter will start from 'lock the target'. If you then attack it again, it will skip back to trying to attack you with the net to put you in its pot.
  • Morpheus (10000) 25 damage. Also seen in The Mines. Drops Red and Blue pills. Also reportedly a 6.5% chance of dropping a Copy of "You Spin Me Right Round," making it the best source for that CD by far.
Morpheus uses kung-fu!
  • Rubber Tree (100-1800) 1 damage. (Most?) Weapons do only 1/10th normal damage. Dropped 18 Pieces of Rubber. You also gain a Piece of Rubber on each successful attack. Not sure if this affects the total amount of Rubber received a la Jabberwocks.
I'm only getting rubber on attacks that do at least 4 or 5 damage -- i.e., not with fists or a dull knife. Also, aligned swords and knives aren't doing 10% damage, and neither are (unaligned) knives and sharp swords. But dull knives do 10%. -Greycat 15:07, 23 January 2009 (GMT)

  • Cat (100) 3(?)-9 damage. Attack it with something small (Fists, Spatula, other things that do less than 10 damage). When you try to attack it with a big weapon (i.e. one that does 10 damage or more, counting the alignment bonus), it 'runs and hides' before you can damage it. It then turns into an un-attackable 'Scaredy Cat' for a short while. Getting hit by one of your pets also scares it off, even if the damage it deals is less than 10. After it reverts back to a Cat, you can try to attack it again. Found in the interior jungles, the Oz interior, the Frozen North, and on the Isle of Fright. Poke of Death is handy, because you get multiple attacks, all under 10 points of damage each.
  • Chicken (10) 1 damage, 1 attack. Clucks, drops feathers.
Feed with Sheaf of Wheat and they will drop an Egg.

  • Downer (500) 10 Damage. Sometimes replaces items with 'lesser' items (e.g. wand -> piece of wood, D12 -> D10, Dragon Stone -> stone). Will affect inventory items, not simply what it is struck by. See Downer Experiment for a working list of item demotions.

E

  • Einherjar (129-381 or so HP) Random alignment, including ice. Only hostile if you wield a weapon. None of them are actually called Einherjars; they're named randomly, and may be called Ingolfr, Jatmundr, Fridjolf, Thorkell, Stigandr, Ogmundr, Guthmundr, Fridjolf, Brandulfr, Eirikr, Herleif, Brandr, and similar (there are many more!). Usually carries an alignment talisman, around 100-130 gold, and another knick-knack or two roughly on par with the talisman.
  • Emissary (250) Seemingly impossible to hurt (though alignable). Whispers messages rather than attacking. Comes in two flavours, vanilla and insane. See Events/Emissary and Emissary Messages.
  • Evil <player name> Created during the Pandora's Socks quest and rumours of some in tunnels. They are evil versions of you and can be any alignment. (TBC!)

F

  • Fenris Wolf (800) 15 damage. Glass swords and aligning works fine.
  • Field Mouse (10) 0 Damage
Oddly enough it is found between fields (planted or not). Dropped nothing.
  • Flying Spaghetti Monster (1000) 10 damage. Seems impervious to damage. Even forks.
Hit it with a Loaf of Bread for 100 damage, or a Slice of Bread for 10. The bread is consumed in the attack, so make sure you have enough on hand to kill it. Ravensdance 14:47, 6 April 2007 (BST)

  • Giant Spider (1000). Two types. First (GiantSpider) can wrap you in webs (which reduce your to-hit by 10% each, but don't block your movement at all. 10AP to break free, gaining a Strand of Silk), paralyse you, and does 10 damage. Drops a Venom Sac. Second type (FriendlySpider) kisses or hugs you and skips away merrily, or shakes your hand, steals your weapon, and skips away.

  • Golem (variable) Created from Magic Mud, available from wizards. Similar to Gladiators insofar as the creator chooses the golem's name, HP, and damage. Alignment is that of its creator.
  • Gladiator Name, HP, number of attacks, and damage chosen by creator. Found only in the Arena, where they are created with blood. Provides Gladiator Points to its creator and (depending on attacks and damage) aligned weapons to its slayer.

H

  • Heavenly Dragon (24) 10 damage, number of attacks is believed to be 1+(number of damage it has taken). (Note: Since you attack before it does, it will get an extra attack if you damage it.) Has 1HP for each horoscope sign. If you don't know your horoscope sign, you get the message
You have no idea how to damage it.

If you do know your sign, you can take out one of its HP (only). Thus, this requires the cooperation of players of all 24 horoscopes to kill, and by the end it's dealing a lot of damage (since it gets an extra attack each time it's damaged). Players who can see monster hit points through an intrinsic ability or with an item can check the horoscope signs (and HP) the dragon has left. Beware!

  • Hippy (9-26 ?) 1 damage. Found hanging around the festival.
  • Hydra (10000 initially) 1 attack per head, 10 damage per attack. Starts with one head and grows more as you cut them off, gaining approximately 10000hp each time it regenerates--Fire weapons don't appear to do anything special to prevent regeneration. This makes them very difficult to kill if you don't use something like a Glass Sword right away. Found on Monster Island and Cigar Island.

Oh, wow. I attacked it with a Midas Wand, and it said the normal, "The Hydra starts to gold but the change doesn't take", but then it counted it as killing one head! I did this again, then used one of my 10 Head's of the Gorgan on it, and I got this:

Appears to regrow heads each time you do at least 100 damage. (96 damage didn't cause regeneration, but 128 did.) This means a bow is safe in any hands, but a Sgt. Duke using a phaser against a weakly-aligned Hydra can cause it to grow up to 10 more heads in one round. The same applies for your pets. Goldfish, ferrets, livestock and kittins are safe to use, but the mighty Troll just makes things worse.

May carry a mirror. Flips you around like you're looking in a mirror when it hits you. Use an elemental wand for interesting, if predictable in retrospect, result. Note: it may still hit you. The results are permanent and you holding a Mirror yourself has no effect.
  • Mosquito (5) (no longer available in game)
  • Mountain Goat (20) 3 damage. Gives goat's milk if hit with a bucket. Found in the frozen north. Phw

Found in swamps (in the Interior, as well as the Fire Swamp). When killed, always gives 10 units of sand, 10 pieces of wood, 10 muds, 5 stones, and a piece of ancient wood and sometimes other various items. Muds can be enchanted.

  • Mutated PolyChromatic Dragon (Four parts, 1000HP of each alignment) Spawned by opening a Rusty Can of Wyrms.

What's a n0rx?

N0rx are slang for breasts. Hence small, perky and big. I'm hoping there's a giant Phwoar at some point.

The randomness of their damage from turn to turn seems to cause a randomness in their XP multiplier as well. Against a small n0rx:

Omar is a well noted troll across many comic book message boards for years if not decades now. One of these boards pointed a whole load of players to here and to Urban Dead at the same time. Omar noticed this and went onto Urban Dead with the express intention of hunting down these characters going as far as to make several alts called playerXmustdie and claiming the Clan are Zombie Spies which gets you put on lots of kills lists.   • PolyChromatic Dragon (Four parts, 1000HP of each alignment) Each alignment has 1 attack of 10 damage (doubled as usual for your weak alignment). Each part can only be hurt by a player of that alignment. Also, aligning him to your weaker alignment has no effect.

Found in abundance on the great plain beneath the frozen north. Hp varies greatly, as does the damage they do. There are 9 types of snakes, they appear on the map under their own names but are all "snake" on the monster-bashing league tables. I have recently gained the ability to decifer what kind of snake is what. I think it has to do with how many you have killed.

Generally, curers will only be interested if you have 1 or 2 poison levels, because they only get credit for a complete cure, so use antidote yourself down to poison level 2 first.
Can also appear as part of a swarm, in which case it's just "snake", and will appear on the leagues as a swarm.
Can also be found on the Astral Plane, where they are known as Astral Snakes. All other characteristics remain the same as plain snakes.Schnorrer 10:52, 15 July 2007 (BST)
If you can identify snakes, then they show up as "Astral Boa", "Astral Cobra", etc...
  • Snark (100) Now where did I put my Snark Sack? Does 20 damage per round, so be careful.
The Snark vanishes when someone catches it, and reappears somewhere else. The other (semi-)unique monsters also do this: The Giant, Omar the Troll, the Emissaries, the Undead Dragon.
  • number Soldier Ants (number) 1 damage. Listed as "Ants" on the kill list. Drops nothing. Good fodder for Sacrificial Swords, though.
  • Stinker (1) 20 damage. Always hostile, even if realigned. No known way to kill them--they cannot take damage, Gorgan Head doesn't kill them, Vorpal Blade didn't snicker-snack on one in 30+ attempts. They are, however, frightened by loud noises...

Attack them with a skin (sheet of paper) or with a Box of Matches for an interesting result.

  • Vindaloo monster (20) 25 Damage, unaffected by alignment and all weapons. Attack with a Can of Lager, which is consumed with a successful attack and does 20 damage. Can drop Trays of Curry, and Cloves of Garlic.

  • Wolf (6 to 14) 1 or 2 damage, which doesn't seem to be tied to HP.
A wolf with odd HP and damage may be a werewolf.
  • 'Ware Wolf - comes in two types depending (it seems) on the time of day: Soft and Hard Wolves:
  • Soft Wolf - seems to have the same stats as a normal Wolf. (HP 6-12, 2 damage.) Encountered during the day.
  • Hard Wolf - had 14 health but did 20 damage, not 2. Encountered at night.
Hard Wolf did 10 damage to me, and died when I hit it for 6 damage, at 05:05 game time.

A long time ago, a witch cursed the lands with numerous swarms of pests. The 'king has a standing bounty on swarms so killing the last of a swarm gets you a good bit of cash. (anyone still have the original message about the witch curse?) They all have 30 health and do 3 damage.
