Quest:Becoming a Master Armourer

From Cities

Jump to: navigation, search
Prerequisite: Be an Armourer for two weeks.
Reward: Become Master Armourer
Location: Master Smith Weyland's Forge (Ancient Castle) or the Forge of the Black Smith in Understuff (unconfirmed, but darksatanic said so)
I've been an Armourer for several weeks, I'm at the Blacksmith's in Understuff now, and there doesn't seem to be any option to start the quest. --Naimoigiant 21:42, 20 November 2008 (GMT)
AP Cost: 307 AP (but compared to the rest of this quest, lack of AP is nothing to worry about)

Starting the Quest

To begin with, you must have qualified as an Armourer for at least two weeks.

According to darksatanic on IRC, he thinks he coded it such that time spent in another class will count -- that is, it is time since you completed the Armourer quest, not time spent as an Armourer. --BlaisedeC 03:45, 15 June 2007 (BST)
Having become an Armourer a long time ago, but then returning to a Knightly profession to pursue a military career, Weyland does not seem to want to talk to you after changing back:
'What do you want? I'm busy. Go away.'
I wonder whether Time Warps would help... --BlaisedeC 19:59, 22 June 2007 (BST)
Nope - Heyus2 19:59, 10 June 2008 (BST)

Once this much time has passed, if you "Interrupt" Weyland for 1AP he'll give you an item with a riddle.

Welcome back. I see you've got yourself an anvil and a bit of practice with it. You should get some more tools.'

The riddle will lead you to another forge, where the Master Smith there will ask for something. When given (for 50AP!) he will train you how to make new equipment and give you a new riddle to the next forge.

Note that Smithys may sometimes appear behind new pieces of the landscape (Planted Fields, Mines, Darth Mall, etc.).

Please also note the coordinates where your riddle lead you. Maybe there's a way to predict it for later uses!

Solutions should always be unique. Where you find non-unique solutions, please post a screenshot to the Bugs page. Darksatanic 15:40, 3 July 2007 (BST)

Shredded Bus Ticket

'Still here? Oh, you probably want this.'
Weyland throws you a Shredded Bus Ticket
You gain a Shredded Bus Ticket. a jigsaw puzzle with 12 pieces in total. Not all pieces fit together, but once completed it tells you another pair of coordinates.

I only had 9 pieces, and the solution wasn't unique --Fun Assassin
The number of pieces will vary. There should always be a unique solution. Darksatanic 15:40, 3 July 2007 (BST)

Wax Tablet

Weyland throws you a Wax Tablet
You gain a Wax Tablet.

The Wax Tablet came with the text:

Thrice the easting plus once the southing is 34, and once the easting plus twice the southing is 38. There will be found Hephaestus.

(Presumably the destination, coordinates, and puzzle will vary per player)

Basic algebra will give you the coordinates of the target smithy.

Gas Bill

Weyland throws you a Gas Bill
You gain a Gas Bill.

The Gas Bill came with the text:

A master smith must understand the interactions of the four elements. The powers linked in this diagram must not be of the same element. Ogoun always considered fire as a summation of all things southerly, and air for the east.
and a diagram of 36 numbers in a 6x6 grid of circles. 4 red, 7 blue, 4 yellow, 7 green, 14 white. They ranged from -7 to 47, and were connected by a network of lines, between 3 and 9 lines per circle, mostly to the circles next to them, but some to circles a chess knight's move away. Random4518 12:48, 31 May 2007 (BST)
It's possible to fill in all the white circles with one of the four colors without having two of the same color connected by a line. The sum of a color's numbers presumably add up to coordinates. Random4518 13:17, 31 May 2007 (BST)
Adding the red and yellow numbers led to Ogoun's Smithy at 84E, 34S. Random4518 06:46, 1 June 2007 (BST)
he was in the middle of the ocean for me... Armourer Erinne

I can no longer see the image on the Gas Bill; since it's been so long I no longer remember what I might be trying to do. (This is for Lalumi...) -- BlaisedeC 03:41, 11 April 2020 (BST)

It is actually still possible to complete the quest... the hard way... By guessing in which region it should be and walking around looking for it until you find the smithy. A Golden Condor makes the search quicker, also use Big maps to check your surroundings and Magic maps to pinpoint the location. For example, if you are searching for the smithy in the ocean and your map shows a city square in the middle of the ocean you can bet that's where the smithy is.--TerrorRemedy 08:43, 11 April 2020 (BST)

Bit of Parchment

Weyland throws you a Bit of Parchment
You gain a Bit of Parchment.

The Bit Of Parchment reads:

Vulcan is north of the Space Station

(or south for me --Yitscar)

Scrap of Vellum

Weyland throws you a Scrap of Vellum.
You gain a Scrap of Vellum.

The Scrap of Vellum came with the text: pbmml fijxo fkbkf pxqxk acfsb bxpqx kaqtl erkao baqeo bbpzl obxka clrop lrqe

This script [[1]] helps a lot. It's a ROT-x cipher (was ROT-9 for me).

previous link is fixed, link 2 appears broken: [[2]] mine was 11. AmishRobots 21:54, 14 July 2008 (BST)

Steel Bars

Weyland throws you a Steel Bars.
You gain a Steel Bars.

There are 10 bars of varying lengths, and you have to divide them into 2 groups of 5 bars that add up to the same length. Each bar is labeled with a number. You add up one set of 5 numbers to get the northern coordinate and the other set of 5 to get the eastern coordinate.

People and Items

You need to visit 6 mighty Gods, who will each demand some valuable items and will then teach you to make a tool and give you the next riddle.

The Gods are

  1. Goibhnu
  2. Hephaestus
  3. Ogoun
  4. Sethlans
  5. Seppo Ilmarinen
  6. Vulcan (always in Space)

Locations and order of the Gods differ for every player. Possible locations include Space, Oz, Great Desert, Frozen North, Thieves Forest, and the middle of the ocean.

The following items have been demanded:

The whole set of tools these smithing gods teach you to make, will be required to ascend in armourhood. The last God will only ask for the File, but you can't produce it without owning each one of these tools. Each God will teach you to make one tool, and each tool is required to make the next. Or you could always borrow tools from your neighbour.

  1. Lump Hammer
  2. Hammer
  3. Blacksmith's Tongs
  4. Cold Chisel
  5. File

At your 6th and final destination:

'Ah, marvellous. Thank you.' You lose a File. 'This is a very nice piece of work.' 'For rendering me this
service, I hereby declare you to be a Master Armourer.' Goibhnu walks... away, in a direction you can't

As a master armourer, tinkering costs 25AP for 70 units of work, working hard costs 50AP for 105 units of work, and extreme smithing costs 100AP for 140 units of work.

Weapons can be made in bronze, iron, or silver with up to 100 damage, 100 accuracy, and 1000 quality. A weapon with 100 damage, 0 accuracy, and 100 quality takes 5000 bits of metal!

Some new types of armour are available in the recipe book, but with errors: chausse, hauberk, haubergeon, and aventail.

Sorry, got one of the ingredients wrong. Fixed now. Darksatanic 14:14, 6 June 2007 (BST)
