Quest:Fortune Tellers

From Cities

Jump to: navigation, search

Prerequisite: No prerequisites for starting the quest, but you need a Spade to dig for apple pips. It's also advisable to have completed the Gauntlet (for improved desert navigation) and the Water Skin quest (so you can use the Water Skin). The capability to self-heal (be it bandages, potions or a dragon stone) is also a good idea. To progress south through the desert will also require 10,000 experience points
Reward: Find out your horoscope sign and have your fortune told. +8 Max AP for each apple pip found (152 total)
Location: The Fortune Tellers on the eastern edge of Brighthelm at 64E 46S DSSGCM
AP Cost: 50AP to start, 20AP to dig up each pip

Costs 50AP to start the quest. You're given a Magic Compass and told to find an object in the Great Desert in order to find out what horoscope sign you were born under (related to the Standing Stones quest). Don't forget to buy a Spade from South Lanes before you set off!

When the magic compass informs you that you're in the right location, dig (for 20 AP) and you'll find an apple pip. Your Max AP will increase by 8, and the compass will start pointing to a new location. Do this twenty times, and on the last one, instead of the above, you'll be told your horoscope sign.

You are too hot.
You dig.
You find a magic apple!
You place it on the ground and wait.
After a while a Salamander wonders into view. It ignores you totally and eats some of the apple. A noise startles you and
you look behind you. When you look back both apple and creature have gone.
Thinking back, you remember your mother telling you that you were born under the sign of the Salamander!
You lose a Magic Compass.
Now using Fists.

Once you know your horoscope sign, you can return to the fortune teller, who will give you a COMPLETELY ACCURATE PREDICTION of your future. The reading costs 10AP and 300gp.

Will this completely accurate prediction be something like "You will regret having wasted all the AP on this quest?" ;-) Stevie-O 17:34, 12 March 2006 (GMT)
Does completing this quest update my ME page? Once I've dug up all the pips, is there any quantifiable reason to return to the fortune teller to get my fortune? Sarcastodon 21:41, 27 June 2006 (BST)
  1. You'll get "Starsign:" under Statistics.
  2. No, not to my knowledge.

Re: Starsigns - This is vital for completing the Totems quest in Oz, as well as being able to damage a Heavenly Dragon, should they ever return. Syagrius 07:18, 13 May 2008 (BST)

Notes

  • Be aware that the apple pip might be on an outcrop, not just a desert square, so just in case it is worth completing the Treasure Hunt for climbing skills, or having something which will let you climb/fly onto these locations. Tabitha R'al 20:12, 10 May 2006 (BST)
  • Strangely, apple pips can also be hidden inside an oasis. This is unlikely to be a problem. Would anyone attempt this quest before Learning to Swim?
Is anyone likely to get the 10k experience requirement to enter the desert without Learning to Swim? Syagrius 22:31, 10 May 2006 (BST)
  • Be aware that apple pips also appear on the Desert Rescue Centre and cannot be dug up (yet) --Blackadder 9:31, 11 June 2006 (BST)
  • On other subject, the Fortune Teller refers to dates using our normal calendar. Shouldn't it use the French Revolution's one, as the game does?--LordAsriel 15:38, 25 June 2006 (BST)
  • To help you find the pips faster, Dragon has developped an apple pip locator
  • Stevie-O has created an online version of Dragon's script [1]
  • So, does the magic compass randomly select a pip to locate, or does it show you the location of the nearest pip? --Gabor Kiss 17:46, 6 May 2007 (BST)
The magic compass records the location of only one pip at a time. It won't point to a different one until you dig up the current pip. Gonzometro 18:42, 6 May 2007 (BST)
