Talk:Kudos

From Cities

Erm, is the gaining/losing by giving/being given it the wrnog way round? Or do you magicly gain extra kudos for kiving other people kudos?

On another note, I couldn't help but note the suggested exchange rate of 3 Kudos to the pint. Obviously this will vary by what kind of pint of beer it is, but we could easily define an exchange rate based on the price of said pint, and figure an exchange rate for Cities AU vs. real-world money accordingly! ... because it would be funny, that's why. macksting 02:53, 16 February 2006 (GMT)
I gained Kudos today at around mid-day is this as a result of the monster killing league? Alternatively is there a way to say why you've gained kudos? Havelock2 12:16, 16 February 2006 (GMT)
I can't see me adopting this system: It costs 10 APs to give Kudos! Chris Tarrant that! APs are the most valuable thing in the game. Make giving Kudos either free, or if you must, 1AP. Rich 13:36, 16 February 2006 (GMT)
Agreed - I was already thinking that there should be no penalty for giving kudos. So it's now 1AP for kudos and 5AP for a 'dis. Elseware 14:30, 16 February 2006 (GMT)
Can I suggest: Have you read Down And Out In The Magic Kingdom? You don't lose kudos if you give kudos. Also, maybe a 'dis should be a big deal. Not an in game penalty per-se, but something like everyone knows you've been 'dissed and who by. And maybe why. Maybe it appears like a badge for 48 hours or something. Kudos is a little like whuffie, except that there's no equivalent notion to left-handed whuffie. I'm also note sure that whuffie is necessarily a good example, since it has its own problems, namely mutual congratulation (I've had an argument with Cory about this). Nick 16:30, 16 February 2006 (GMT)
Can I just get this straight in my head? If I have more than 7 kudos I lose one point every day but if I have less than 7 kudos then I gain a point every day? Surely everyone will end up with 7 kudos, why not make the changes weekly so that over time you can amass or lose kudos. You could halve the total every month so that people don't run away on leaderboards (unless i'm not seeing the bigger picture). Could you explain this for me please. Havelock2 14:37, 16 February 2006 (GMT)
Was going to suggest that the high AP cost of giving Kudos ensured that the Kudos-earning deed must of necessicity be something that required a large expenditure of AP by the recipeint (i.e. healing for lots of HP, or summoning to a pinata or something). -palindrome 23:44, 16 February 2006 (GMT)

And you'll never know who gives you Kudos?

you'll know. It'll say "XXXX gives you Kudos," or something like that. -palindrome 23:44, 16 February 2006 (GMT)
I somehow have 10 kudos, but it didn't say who gave them to me, just that I got them. Since I hadn't played at all in the week before they were implemented I'm very confused. JohnnyRogers 23:58, 17 February 2006 (GMT)
  • err...killing cute seals is considered as being naughty?? e.bstan

I still don't understand how one gives kudos, I don't see a button to give the darn things away anywhere. Am I just overlooking something?

This needs to be documented better, maybe in the intro page you get to from the main site, I mean, it's a part of the game that people should understand.--Hamelin 17:03, 16 March 2006 (GMT)

If you select your Kudos - it's at the bottom along with Soul - you'll see your options. And Hamelin, I don't think the admins have completely worked out how it should work yet... Vashka 17:29, 16 March 2006 (GMT)

So... Up to 100 Kudos base level now? Any other changes? Ulf 13:11, 21 September 2006 (BST)

Updating

I've just changed the 7 to 100, assuming everything else is the same. Though, reading it, it seems there's lots less ways of gaining kudos in the actual game. I think I've heard that there were all these ways, but most got removed. Would be good to update it, but I'd need to confirm stuff first. Feel free to steal this job ;) Snarfer 15:25, 21 September 2006 (BST)

I gave someone a Kudos for healing me (I dropped to 99, got [x], they rose to 101, got [+]) but I regenerated the Kudos not that long ago; a long time before midnight. Sadly I didn't check the exact time. Perhaps on the hour? Stelio 16:27, 21 September 2006 (BST)
I'm vaguely keeping track of another experiment. I gave 1 Kudos for healing again, taking me to 99. That was at 10:03 or thereabouts. Three hours later and I'm still on 99. I'll update again at some point. Perhaps the jump back up to 100 yesterday was a one-off occurrence. Stelio 13:07, 22 September 2006 (BST)
Six hours later and I'm still on 99. More updates at some other point in the future. :-) Stelio 16:22, 22 September 2006 (BST)
It's now nearly 11pm, so that makes it over twelve hours and I'm still on 99 Kudos. It does looks like this is just a rebasing from 7 to 100 (both arbitrary values since Kudos can go negative) and that the extra Kudos regen yesterday was a one off. But then Droll was suggesting on the Current events page that it may be a time-linked script that isn't working properly right now. I'll have to try experimenting another day. :-) Stelio 23:02, 22 September 2006 (BST)
Most bizarre. Although I did go up from 99 to 100 at midnight, just last night I didn't go down from 101 to 100. Oh well, I'm sure that the system will sort itself out magically and decide what it wants to do. :-) Stelio 08:44, 25 September 2006 (BST)
Me too... am not complaining (at all!), but I've had 102 kudos for a week or two now. Has the system changed, or am I broken/some weird exception? (It always used to right itself to 100). Stoo 07:27, 13 Dec 2006 (GMT)
