The elemental martial arts still make 8 times the normal damage instead of 4 times, is that considered a bug or can we write it down as a feature?--Solune 09:39, 15 October 2006 (BST)
- Sssshh! :>
The problem now is that with the exception of bows, all other weapons are pointless against aligned creatures. As much as a like to be able to walk up to a Crocodile and punch it for 80 damage, it does sort of make air swords pointless (especially since they break).
Assuming the intent was to make martial arts more useful than they were (rather than it being a bug), possible solutions:
- Make it x6 instead of x8. Would then be as good as an elemental knife, but not as good as an elemental sword.
- Make it x5, so it's better than a sharp sword, but not as good as an elemental knife.
- Increase the base damage to 3. This improves them against unaligned critters, and makes it as good as an elemental knife.
- Add some more martial arts quests to increase base damage of all martial arts. Maybe something like go kill 10 ninjas for a +1 to base martial arts damage, kill 100 for +2, kill 1000 for +3 etc. As a side effect, it may help solve the ninja/thief problem in the forest!

- I'm in favor of de-emphasizing elemental swords. It'll allow new players to catch up to the current level that much faster, free up the monster drop tables for new items, and sharpens the distinction between Knights and Wizards. Knights can go into the wilderness without even a weapon and beat up monsters, wizards can achieve even more potent combat effects, but to do so requires effectively combining resources: mana, spells, and casting costs. - But then again, what is a knight without his sword?--Solune 22:24, 16 October 2006 (BST)
Don't forget that some people are not fire-aligned: fire punch is -10% to-hit, where as fire sword is +10%. But I'm all for more martial arts quests, with more interesting benefits than what exist now. Although we should compensate the stickyness of martial arts by some use restriction--Solune 16:48, 15 October 2006 (BST)
- Actually, I'm air-aligned, but I've also completed the bomb squad quest, plus I've had 4 levels of accuracy potions, so I'm at 90%+ to hit on most things, so that probably colours my judgement. However, it does mean that any character can get to the point where martial arts are better than most weapons, even if they start at the point where they're not very good. Do you balance it for the middle characters (Dukes with martial arts) or the maxed out characters (Duke with martial arts + bomb squad)? --Sam 17:25, 15 October 2006 (BST)
- I've just noticed its very effective against mimics: they do 10 dmg while you do 80--Solune 12:51, 16 October 2006 (BST)
