Talk:New Items

From Cities

Jump to: navigation, search

Should this page be merged with the general Items page? There seems to be confusion about where things belong (eg. the new musical instruments), and ideally each category of object would have its own page, wouldn't it? I know they're both quite long. Maybe we need to make some more object category pages. Any thoughts? Vashka 11:29, 7 March 2006 (GMT)

Yeah and once they're added here, they seem to linger here forever :) Ant 19:05, 7 March 2006 (GMT)

Where are these coming from?JohnnyRogers 20:24, 8 September 2006 (BST)

I think the one I found was dropped by a Toad or somesuch. Random4518 04:39, 9 September 2006 (BST)

Broom

Does it bother anyone else that there now exist items created specifically for griefing purposes? (Giving Summon Stone Xs to a non-GL was bad enough.) Players have been asking for Heavy Boots for a long time, and shortly after they're implemented something else is put in that basically negates them.

One of the things I most like about Cities is that it is cooperative rather than competitive, and thus has a much lower incidence of bad attitudes than any other game I am aware of. The Broom, however, seems to only serve antisocial purposes, not social ones. --Dragon 02:42, 13 September 2007 (BST)

As near as I can make out, it was crafted because, at one of the HAS initiations, one of the guild members was sitting exactly one square south of the temple, which was vexing for all around. I would imagine that Elseware was not considering Heavy Boots or fields when he created the Broom, and hasn't gotten around to fixing this. Mind you, the fact that Brooms aren't tradeable means that there won't be anyone collecting wodges of them, except through lots of hard work. PotatoEngineer 02:56, 13 September 2007 (BST)
GL Andrew seemed pretty sure in IRC:
<greycat> heavy boots don't work against a broom? that's shocking.
<AndyLandy> I already shouted at Elseware about that one
<AndyLandy> The broom was specifically designed with the intention of pissing off people growing plums
<greycat> Oh.
<Corellis> why?
<AndyLandy> Because Elseware's like that
<Corellis> that's a bloody terrible thing to do.
<AndyLandy> I said so too
[...]
<AndyLandy> I'm sure there are a million and one reasons why they're evil and should be banned
<AndyLandy> But I was overruled
but the fact that you automatically assumed that a broom overriding heavy boots was a bug should say something in itself. --Dragon 03:33, 13 September 2007 (BST)

I guess it's just a matter of time before someone takes a broom to the marketbots and messes up the market feeds for Citiesberg. It has been done before, but that time it was with summon stones. The market bots got Bot hats as a result but if the broom overrides hats and heavy boots.... --TerrorRemedy 10:36, 13 September 2007 (BST)

So what if somebody actually uses a broom to steal somebody's crop? What's the big deal? You've only lost some Plums/Wheat and about 50 AP, so take one step north again, grab some Beans and plant a new field. It's by far not as bad as a summon to bleak island, the middle of the ocean or the astral plain. Or consider getting surrounded by four PolyDragons. Or having someone robbing your shop... And: Concerning the HAS initiation mentioned above, AFAIR, when I asked elseware to push that HAS member one square north, he refused and added he had in mind an item to take care of this for some time already.
