Royal Race Around the World

I saw some interesting sights while I was running around today. Does anyone know anything about Caroline's Island and/or a/The Thunderchild far out at sea? (I'm aware of the one that seems to be docked at Brighthelm.) I would have loved to investigate, but I invested way too much AP in the race to get side-tracked. :/

I'm also extremely curious as to what route the other racers took. I won't post my route yet out of respect for those who are still running, but I would be interested in comparing notes at some point. -Scrumbucket 13:55, 9 August 2008 (BST)

Here are the rankings as I post this, for those that haven't heard:

  • First: Sgt. Duke Kaos Dragon MD (37 minutes)
  • Second: Sgt. Duke hollyhamster MD (61 minutes)
  • Third: Wizard naath MD (70 minutes)
  • Fourth: Sgt. Duke andrewsi MD (77 minutes)
  • Fifth: Sgt. Duke Scrumbucket MD (83 minutes)
  • Sixth: Shaman LimeHan (108 minutes)
  • Seventh: Sgt. Duke Cthu1hu MD (121 minutes)
  • Eighth: Wizard macksting (199 minutes)

I went south down the west side of the map (probably didn't go farther east than 15E or so), stayed to the water as much as possible with my airship. Thing wore out just as I hit the Crill Sea and since I didn't have a horsie, I was stuck using my Survey Vessel most of the rest of the way (and the damn thing broke before I got to the Frozen South! I was freaking out but fortunately I could make the nails I needed after checking my inventoyu. I didn't see anything too odd, I happened to pass by XXXXXXXXXX on his speedboat in the Northern Ocean and nicked his wizard's hat (which I promptly took to the pentacle once I got back, he he he) and I dug up a treasure chest I had a map for on the way down the Great North Road. I probably spent way too much AP, but I've got so much I don't really mind.--LimeHan 22:27, 9 August 2008 (BST)

Music Video Competition

Entries are now sought for the Music Video Competition. With fabulous prizes (we hope). Schnorrer 08:53, 9 August 2008 (BST)

Lost or Stolen?

Just before retiring from the stage (that I ultimately couldn't keep away from - cursed fame) I had the humidor won fair and square by the The Vaudeville Guild (see Here) passed to Cor on loan for his collection - in accordance with the wishes of 10X - but it seems to be lost. Anyone seen our humidor? We'd like to see it passed on to the winner of the Music Video Competition - it just made so much sense. Schnorrer 08:53, 9 August 2008 (BST)

Unicorn

A few players have noted getting odd messages about a unicorn. Might as well post em here:

Unicorn touches you with its horn. You feel a little purer.

My kudos didn't appear to change. - Heyus2 07:12, 9 August 2008 (BST)

From the Pentacle:

Unicorn says 'blasts you with a ray of pure happiness!'
Unicorn blasts you with a ray of pure happiness!

The fact the first one was a typo makes me think it's a player in a unicorn suit! :P Rhapsodie 08:29, 9 August 2008 (BST)
PS There is also a "Dark Knight" in a Batman costume cruising around on monofilament wires. -- Rhapsodie 09:25, 9 August 2008 (BST)

Statuesque Beauties and Magnificent Erections Sculpture Show now open!

Come past the pentacle near the Royal Palace to collect your Plinths - and while you're there, admire all of the other events that are on (probably not in that order - plinths are being handed out when I see the requests, which means that you will probably need to park there for a while before your request is filled)! -- the Muse of Sculpture 02:14, 9 August 2008 (BST)

There's a new section to the competition page - sculptures made so far - for recording the coords of all sculptures. If you've made some already, please add yours in! -- the Muse of Sculpture 02:14, 9 August 2008 (BST) 02:39, 10 August 2008 (BST)

Ruthven's experiment

Just after festival commencement, Santa was out early (due to a "whim" of the Great Lords) and those of you with nimble fingers may have been able to steal a present from him:

Present: One of Ruthven's experiments went horribly wrong... and some of it's in
this package. It looks horrible... but smells delicious.
You lose a Present.
You close your eyes and swallow... yum!
Now using Fists.

Mmmm, AP-flavoured! Rhapsodie 00:40, 9 August 2008 (BST)

They merge with and replace previous presents. Are you given an option as with the previous presents? Is it random or is it AP only? --TheRealKilgore 01:05, 9 August 2008 (BST)
Not random. AP only - 250-odd. Not sure if it takes you over your maximum. This present was as a result of an "oops". Rhapsodie 01:27, 9 August 2008 (BST)
Not random and only 250 AP? That is unfortunate for those of who had present(s) from before. The old presents gave over 1000 AP (not to mention the other choices.) It wouldn't be bad if it didn't replace the old presents. Any chance this "oops" will be fixed? --TheRealKilgore 01:31, 9 August 2008 (BST)
Then I'm not touching mine - no way I'm giving up "see monster health" Syagrius 01:49, 9 August 2008 (BST)
If you already opened an old present you're fine. You won't lose what you already have. If you have any unopened presents you will not be able to choose "see monster health" if you planned on doing so. --TheRealKilgore 02:27, 9 August 2008 (BST)
Ah, ok - Misread the "merges and replaces" thing. :) Syagrius 02:58, 9 August 2008 (BST)
Incidentally, the AP granted will take you over max. ぬるぬる 11:13, 10 August 2008 (JST)

The Hunt for Red Fedora

As a prelude to the upcoming festivities, we creative types have come up with the cities' Hat Hunt! And who better to be our wiley mad-hatter than Merchant, Cities' illustrious and most capitalist-inclined player! Merchant has rather craftily hidden somewhere in Cities, possibly in his guild space. Your job, dear hunters, is to find him, snatch his Red Fedora and unseat him in the hat tables!

Several players have gotten together to fund this soiree, and we welcome more donations! The first player to successfully unseat Merchant in the hat tables and post the screenshot wins all the proceeds! For more details and to sign up, go here!

Art Show Entries

Entries are now being sought for the Cities First Annual Royal Art Show!, which is being held as part of the Royal Festival of Martial, Performance and Marital Arts. The festival doesn't begin till 9th August, but the artistes amongst you will no doubt need time to plan and prepare!

Yellow ducks on ponds

Just encountered this at 55E 211S. There are some cute yellow ducks sitting on the surface of the lake. Not really sure what to do with them. Anyone have an idea? -- Herakkis 20:00, 23 Jul 2008

They're player created items. You made them from rubber or some such. --Ade 01:16, 24 July 2008 (BST)
There's a wiki page now: Rubber Duck. Rhapsodie 07:04, 26 July 2008 (BST)

Warning re: Void Calling

Either deliberately or because of a bug (edit: apparently it was deliberate), Void Calling no longer does what it used to. Instead of creating a Time Warp, it now functions as though you've just used one. That means that it's no longer safe to cast near pentacles or parties - for obvious reasons. A thousand apologies to our current party and penty hosts for the damage that discovering this has caused. :( Rhapsodie 10:28, 21 July 2008 (BST)

S'okay. The party had a longer lease on its existence than I expected to anyway, as a result of Caroline's classy two-day bash. Perhaps somebody took a torch to the Freezing Man sculpture a little early. I won't sue. S. Mackie 17:49, 21 July 2008 (BST)
Darn, Time Warps were a nice little money maker for mages.
And it makes the Wizard quest more awkward (Time Warps 0AP use meant you could stockpile them and then use them without affecting your... uh... "hardness" Rackmount 13:57, 29 July 2008 (BST)
This means we'll be selling Void Calling spells in Eye Pods, I imagine. How much AP does it take to play an Eye Pod? If it doesn't take much, it won't affect the AP cost of Void Calling the way a book would. S. Mackie 18:28, 29 July 2008 (BST)
On the bright side, this makes mages slightly better prepared than average when it comes to growing crops. Others must hunt Rocky Horrors.
Still, irritating, yes. S. Mackie 18:17, 22 July 2008 (BST)

Something odd just happened at the pentacle:

Everything takes a jump to the right and then a step to the left.
Suddenly, it's 6 hours ago.

--LimeHan 18:07, 22 July 2008 (BST)

A Reverse Time Warp. These should probably be added somewhere. Not mine; so far, although there's rumor they exist (rarely) as monster drops, the only ones used have been by Great Lords or the 'king himself. S. Mackie 18:17, 22 July 2008 (BST)
Elseware mentioned on IRC that you can expect exactly one Reverse Time Warp to drop per week (or was it per month?). it's intentionally extremely rare. -- Thog 21:27, 22 July 2008 (BST)
Especially since too many could make a party last a bit longer :) Syagrius 01:46, 23 July 2008 (BST)
Call me curious: parties are the most obvious use, and probably the best, but what other uses are there? S. Mackie 04:27, 23 July 2008 (BST)
Would it affect the space elevator? How about mana or spells (as in, it's midnight again?) - or to be terribly annoying, ungrowing someone else's fields? Extending the life of a pentacle? Syagrius 06:13, 23 July 2008 (BST)
Normal timewarps don't effect the elevator or spell and mana acquisition; so I doubt it. Extending parties and penties is presumably the only sensible use.--naath 10:22, 23 July 2008 (BST)
I agree. Maybe as an expensive way to clear out that fire crackers don't work on. But that's all I can think of. --Ade 13:51, 23 July 2008 (BST)
So when parties become scarce again, they'll have rather few uses. I suppose they're also a quick, terrorist-y way to destroy a few player-made locations, too. S. Mackie 18:18, 23 July 2008 (BST)
Actually, based on what Elseware and Andrew have said on IRC, I think it's safe to say RTWs would EXTEND player-made locations, not destroy them. -- Thog 18:32, 23 July 2008 (BST)
It depends though. What if using the RTW turned time back to before the location existed?--LimeHan 02:15, 24 July 2008 (BST)

GL Andrew's Barbecue

Located at 6E 7N - a square with the normal field graphic except labelled "Great Lord Andrew's Barbecue". You can Join Barbecue for 10AP:

You lose a Four-Pack of Lager.
You join the barbecue. There's nothing quite like the taste of meat that's both under- and over-cooked.
It will also take 1 loaf of bread and 1 salad in addition to the lager if you have those as well.

After that, there's a description of "Plenty of charcoal left." and a button that lets you "Add Charcoal" for 1AP.

as well as a "Add 10 Charcoal" for 5 AP. Currently adding 10 charcoal gives you an error message however
You feed more charcoal to the barbecue.
You lose an Unit of Charcoal.

Mmm, barbecue! Rhapsodie 11:46, 20 July 2008 (BST)

Interesting. If you move off the square and back on again you have to join it again. I tried, and got the following message:
You can't turn up to a barbecue without bringing anything! Come back when you've got
some bread, a salad, or a four-pack of lager.
Looks like nothing is going on at 6E 7N now. I guess the barbecue is over? Fraggle 12:35, 21 July 2008 (BST)
It seemed to disappear at roughly the same time Caroline's party ended. Rhapsodie 22:31, 21 July 2008 (BST)

CURSE

Warning -Using a Curse creates a Cursed Field on your square, and takes off Kudos. You can only talisman out, and all monsters next to the square vanish with the paths. I made two so far 11e/273s by Emerald City, and one by Crimson city 76e/210s.

You can use a curse for 10ap (Not on a plowed field - says "not here") You get them attacking a Witch she does 150 dmg, or turns you to a Toad (This is when you gain a curse) Toad lasts for 5-10APs

Statue of Delia Derbyshire

There is a new statue east of the road south of water city.

Apparent connections to music, Dr. Who, sonic Boom (electronic music band), and the BBC.

Building Site

Located at 90E 5S DSSGCM, right at the edge of Earth City. The terrain looks the same as the Earth City dump (which it is one square right of). There's also one in Brighthelm at 62E -45S DSSGCM. - Rhapsodie 11:47, 17 July 2008 (BST)

Building Site: This is just a building site!
I saw the one in Earth City last night, but I didn't know Brighthelm had one too. I figured it was a horsie gene sequencing lab, due to several new items popping up. I don't know what to think with two of them, though. --Ade 12:14, 17 July 2008 (BST)
Looking at Glendale, there's one in each of the 'Kingdom cities and in Bognor. Not Bentnob, Northwich or any of the four Oz cities - although maybe Glendale just hasn't been updated for them with the new details yet. Rhapsodie 12:24, 17 July 2008 (BST)
If you check the wiki link on the terrain, it says TubeEntrance. A new mode of transportation in works? --Jpv 14:51, 17 July 2008 (BST)
There is one at the festival too -- ketchup 18:14, 17 July 2008
I saw one at the King's castle too. Actually my wife did, and she hasn't finished time and space yet, so the map didn't get updated--Che-T 18:59, 17 July 2008 (BST)
There's also one in the Forbidden City. -Jon 16:00, 18 July 2008 (BST)

Shortly after guild space was created, elseware and/or DS were tinkering with rapid underground transit. They were known as Guild Travel Nodes but implementation into the game never happened. There was also mention of guild talismans but, as far as I know, those never materialized, either. I miss IRC; reading old logs just doesn't feel the same. Snare 19:31, 17 July 2008 (BST)

Well, if it's a subway, that explains why it's only northern continent cities that have them at the moment! :) Rhapsodie 13:57, 18 July 2008 (BST)

There is one in Bögnør as well. 35E 157N DSSGCM

Rather than continuously adding to this list, add it to the page I just created for it. -- Thog 17:35, 18 July 2008 (BST)

Ooh, the Bognor one is now:

Bog End Station: You can't come in without an Oyster!

Now reads:

You can't come in without an Oyster or valid Ticket!

Rapid underground transit seems to be right. Rhapsodie 22:12, 27 July 2008 (BST)

I have two Oysters, but I haven't yet had a chance to test the system. Anyone want to make me an offer for my spare Oyster to try it out with? Also - Oysters are not that easy to come by and I'm thinking of cornering the market in them.10X 11:31, 28 July 2008 (BST)

Now, now. Don't be greedy. Share for the sake of SCIENCE!, the love your fellow players will shower upon you is worth far more than gold... --Ade 11:35, 28 July 2008 (BST)
Has no one else tried this yet then? I want a go first! Alright - Oysters are found in the very depths of the deep southern ocean. There is a specific way to catch them, which I'll keep to myself for a bit - although it's fairly easy to work out if you look at the new items. Once I've taken a few trips on the tube I'll spill everything. 10X 12:28, 28 July 2008 (BST)
You need a trawler and an inseine net. Rhapsodie 13:21, 28 July 2008 (BST)
Well, yes, quite... but you need to do the special dance at the same time too.10X 13:38, 28 July 2008 (BST)
Hope you haven't spent too much AP on farming these things to sell - Oysters seem to be sticky items now. -- Rhapsodie 13:00, 31 July 2008 (BST)

Okay. Right. Well. I'm down in the tube station at Earth City. I can cross the tracks to either a northbound or southbound platform. There doesn't seem to be any trains running at the moment though. Will report more as it occurs. 10X 13:47, 28 July 2008 (BST)

phw has been adding what he's discovered in the subways here. Rhapsodie 22:30, 28 July 2008 (BST)

New Tree Creatures

Killed an Ash Tree. Looks like one of the axes is the preferred method of killing. Took only 10% of damage caused by other weapons. Didn't have any axes, not even copper to experiment to see if he was vulnerable to any axe or only certain types. 1200 hps and dropped 12 pieces of wood. He was in the Thieves Forest. Haldar

There are a bunch of new trees in the Thieves' Forest, including Oak, Willow, Walnut, Ash, & Holly. Copper axes do double damage against them. Even though the message says that they drop X pieces of wood, they actually seem to drop X pieces of oak/willow/walnut/etc. --Naimoigiant 22:05, 16 July 2008 (BST)
Perhaps that is the normal drop, but on the Ash Tree above I got wood, not ash. Perhaps I just had bad luckHaldar
Any sign of an Ebony tree? The Northwich town hall needs a piano that requires, among other things, ebony keys. - Rhapsodie 09:44, 17 July 2008 (BST)
I have 3 pieces, Got them hunting Morpheus's - - Avatar_Aang 09:44, 18 July 2008 (BST)
Apparently Morpheuses (Morpheii) don't drop ebony. :( Rhapsodie 10:40, 25 July 2008 (BST)

Bird Cage

You can now use eight pieces of wood to make a bird cage. Might be useful down in the mines or something (a cheap form of canary)? :) Rhapsodie 11:49, 15 July 2008 (BST)

Add a pigeon from the palace, some string, and a memo, and you can send carrier pigeons to the 'King (which are magically turned into SMSs in real life). -- Thog 15:56, 15 July 2008 (BST)

Stumps

There appears to be a new terrain type at 83E 7N called 'Stumps' has someone cleared forrest? I don't know how to upload pictures I'm afraid... ford_prefect 10:03, 15 July 2008 (BST)

Apparently, this is a possibility if someone uses one of the new axes. Andrewsi 10:28, 15 July 2008 (BST)

Pez Dispensers!

The contest is over, my SMS message was the first. I had the idea of a Pez Dispenser for a prize, but Elseware had an infinitely better idea:

An official from the Council of Great Lords appears, hands you a package,
and then disappears again.
You gain a Pez Dispenser Dispenser.

I'm pretty sure it's a sticky item (it's untradeable and unbaggable), but the Pez Dispensers it creates are tradeable custom items! I'll be giving them away by request (one per person) at the trading post in Earth City near the current party. Random4518 03:50, 15 July 2008 (BST)

Hmmm, contains valuable z! I'd have probably gone for an aaaaabbbbccccddddd... (you get the idea) but I suppose that might have been judged "useful". Pez Dispensers are a cute idea though! --naath 10:58, 15 July 2008 (BST)
My alt, Mark Salen would very much appreciate one. He's at the post. --Ade 10:43, 15 July 2008 (BST)
General stores (at least, two that I checked) are now selling 20 Pez for 100 Gold. Rhapsodie 11:12, 15 July 2008 (BST)

Yay, mine's a Pokemon dispenser. :) MrBlarney 17:35, 16 July 2008 (BST)
Freya, my proto-wizard, would like one; ragna's busy wacking sandworms :) --Ragna 19:27, 16 July 2008 (BST)

Petri Dish

Make a Petri Dish from 2 Bits of Molten Glass. Make an Agar Dish from a Petri Dish, 6 Seaweed Fronds and a Jelly Fish. --TheRealKilgore 06:27, 11 July 2008 (BST)

Ooh! Ooh! Maybe this is the first step in the Horsie gene lab!! Rhapsodie 01:21, 12 July 2008 (BST)

Flag

Is this also a new thing, just killed a gull (trying to get my hit points down before a spell of 'hard knocks') and it dropped a 'small pink flag'. What's that all about? ketchup 18:21, 10 July 2008 (BST)

I see flags drop from more than just eagles. S. Mackie 18:52, 10 July 2008 (BST)
If you collect all three colors, you can make bunting. No idea what that does. Random4518 20:27, 10 July 2008 (BST)
It might have something to do with decoration? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunting_(textile) ScurvyPirate 21:07, 10 July 2008 (BST)
Since it appears we're getting more boats of sorts... "The term bunting is also used of a collection of flags, and particularly those of a ship" -- maybe? Syagrius 02:36, 11 July 2008 (BST)
Make a Virtuous Vessel (in a bottle) and 20 Kudos from 50 Copper Nails, a Bottle of Sparkling Wine, 500 Bits of Iron, 60 Tars, 250 Pieces of Wood, 30 Pieces of Ancient Wood and a Silver Ankh. Requires a Plan for a Virtuous Vessel. --TheRealKilgore 06:39, 11 July 2008 (BST)
No bunting on that boat. Maybe another one. Say, are the plans consumed in this process, as with an Air Ship, or do they remain intact to pass on or use to produce others? S. Mackie 07:28, 11 July 2008 (BST)
I'm pretty sure that the plans being listed under "requires x" instead of "make x from y" means that they aren't used up. Random4518 14:34, 11 July 2008 (BST)

Ivory Tusk

All my "Pieces of Wood" are now "Ivory Tusks" which do all the things that Wood does, only with a new name. Anyone else? --naath 10:26, 10 July 2008 (BST)

That's curious. Maybe it's so you can make pianos; there was mention of making a piano in #cities yesterday by killing off enough white elephants. S. Mackie 14:59, 10 July 2008 (BST)
Andylandy said on IRC that it was a mistake that this name got assigned to Wood, and that Wood is still Wood. However I'm guessing that "Ivory Tusks" will appear in due coarse. I have a dead elephant (thanks GL Andrew!); it acquired a "flay 10AP" button - so I did. Got 8 Bones and an Elephant Hide and lost the corpse. No Tusks. --naath 22:30, 10 July 2008 (BST)

Big Red Button (BRB)

I don't think it was there yesterday or the day before, but now there is one more button at the golden condor control room in the golden city. it's right next to the "return to base (100 AP)". It says "big red buttom (10 AP)". I checked the GC page and it's not mentioned. On one hand I would like to see what it does (in the name of science of course) and on the other I'm a little afraid of what it could do? opinions?--Che-T۞ 10:59, 9 July 2008 (BST)

My first inclination is that somebody shall succumb to temptation and do something with it eventually. However, my second inclination (and wiser) is that this is yet another reference to the TV show. What did the big red button do in the show? S. Mackie 12:00, 9 July 2008 (BST)
I googled it and the first hit I got was the Cities development page! ;) Rhapsodie 12:25, 9 July 2008 (BST)
I immediately thought of the History Eraser Button from Ren and Stimpy. PUSH IT!!!!!! -- Thog 15:41, 9 July 2008 (BST)

Well, I pushed it in the name of science, and the only thing I got is "Unknown action: eject". now we have to wait until it's working to see if it ejects everyone out of the Golden Condor, or it's just a "fix" so that people can't hide hats in the control room--Che-T۞ 20:04, 9 July 2008 (BST)

Sounds like it's an ejector button that isn't implemented fully yet.--LimeHan 21:24, 9 July 2008 (BST)

Someone brought the golden condor back to the control room, the condor also has this "big Red Button" and when you press it, you get:"You press the button... BOIIINNINININININININGG!!!" and exit the condor at the current location (instead of moving out to one of the 4 sides)--Che-T۞ 00:23, 10 July 2008 (BST)

Going back to start the cure antidote quest, I found the condor in the city. It no longer has the 4 side roads, so you can only exit it at it's current location by using the "Big Red Button". Guess the King got tired of people using it as an "exploit" --Che-T 01:29, 26 July 2008 (BST)

Earth City Dump

Now twice as big. Hey! Not in my backyard! Schnorrer 11:28, 8 July 2008 (BST)

Hahaha! Rhapsodie 09:46, 9 July 2008 (BST)

Festival Changes

The Festival has undergone a few changes. It seems that Lost Vagueness has gone out of business. Both the casino and the tavern are gone. The tavern is now called "Trash City" where you can buy a "tash" for $5000.

The Lost Vagueness Casino has been changed to "The Downlow". You need to wear a tash to gain access to this exclusive bar. Kilgore

I wonder how this effects the pub crawl? Has Trash City replaced Lost Vagueness (the tavern)? Rhapsodie 10:05, 7 July 2008 (BST)
Actually if you are exiting from the Condor you can access Trash City without wearing a Tash. I assume this is a bug --TheRealKilgore 02:25, 8 July 2008 (BST)

The Bridge to Oz

After making the endless jokes about it, I'm happy to announce that, with the help of Incen (who provided wood) and Ketchup (who provided a lot of wood and labor, that we now have a bridge leading from Cigar Island all the way to the Oz mainland. (Yes, I was THAT bored). Feel free to use it, and to maintain it if you want it to stick around.

As I mentioned, the bridge starts at 44,-73 and travels all the way down to 40,-204 (near Atlantish). If anyone's feeling EXTRA creative, you can always extend it over to R'1yeh at 29,-144. Enjoy! -- Thog 20:14, 5 July 2008 (BST)

Thanks to your bridge to Oz, I cannot speak with one of the characters to finish the master armours quest because the bridge is located over his location. Seriously out of the entire ocean, what are the chances of that occurring? It is a cool feat that you guys did though. If we maintain the bridge can we just let 41 E and 140 S go unrepaired for just a little while? --Mawenpea 03:44, 7 July 2008 (BST)
Sorry about that. Someone mentioned this on IRC, Darksatanic checked the database, and didn't see a smithy under the bridge. You may want to contact him... -- Thog 15:44, 7 July 2008 (BST)
If you are very impatient to get on with your quest you can try standing on the spot of bridge you want disassembled and use Time Warps. I guess about 7 Time Warps would do the trick, a bridge has about 14 days durability. It would be nice if you or one of your friends repaired the bridge afterwards. Try asking the help of a benvolent wizard (or buy the Time Warps, they are not horribly expensive) and afterwards maybe the help of a bridge builder if you don't have that skill. May I say that I am not 100% sure this will work, I haven't tried it myself but I'm guessing it will. --Liquid 17:08, 7 July 2008 (BST)
You can disassemble a bridge with Time Warps - Elan had to do that once when someone blocked the R1'yeh entrance with a bridge. I would agree on the request to reassemble it after you're done -- Thog 18:47, 7 July 2008 (BST)
And the bridge appears to be in the process of collapsing (at least the Cigar end is gone) so this may not be an issue for much longer -- Thog 22:01, 11 July 2008 (BST)

btw, this project was the reason Axes were added to the game for people who need wood in BULK.

The Vents

The Vents are now open! The entrance is at 38E 34N. At the entrance it says "Only those who have travelled ten thousand leagues may ever gain entrance. Time and space are the keys to mastery of Air." I paid no attention to what this means as I was immediately able to travel north INTO THE DEATH MOUNTAINS. Though the area looks wide open. you are only allowed to travel on one path. And that path ends after about 4 steps. However,

<elseware>	New puzzle open.
<elseware>	leading to a second challenge.
<elseware>	pace yourselves
<darksatanic>	elseware: Pace... yeah, riiiight.
<elseware>	this one is designed to be long
<elseware>	don't think the old tricks will work :)
<elseware>	probably take the first person about 6 weeks of doing nothing else
<elseware>	once it's mapped maybe 2 weeks.
<elseware>	but the ultimate altar of air is the first to be accessible
<elseware>	with fire/water/earth planned to open slowly.
<elseware>	each grants a generous bonus.

ScurvyPirate 18:23, 4 July 2008 (BST)

Oooh ooh ooh, here, closest standing stone is XVII now why don't I have any AP! ford_prefect 18:31, 4 July 2008 (BST)
After casting Remember inside the Vents, casting Recall seems to just throw you around the 'Kingdom randomly, so Remember/Recall isn't going to be of any help. Time Warps only make bats and rats appear. A Guide to Time and Space doesn't have any discernable effect. Skip North had no effect.
I've got a hunch this area's paths only open during certain hours. The path ended after about 4 steps for the first quest-goers, but the path ends after about 3 steps currently. Random4518 01:09, 5 July 2008 (BST)
That seems to be the idea currently. I created a wiki page for mapping The Vents, with the latest information as discussed in the IRC channel. The map is very clumsy, please do improve it if you have any wiki layout skills. --Jpv 01:12, 5 July 2008 (BST)

University of Southampton

... seems to have appeared to the East of Brighthelm.

I'm at the Communications Office at 84E 47S, where I can sell a Brand Identity. There are a handful of squares to the East, labeled University of Southampton; and I've just smoted a Dolphin, which dropped one of the afore-mentioned Brand Identities.... Andrewsi 12:16, 4 July 2008 (BST)

Google gives this. --Dragon 17:52, 4 July 2008 (BST)
Brings back memories why is it always blue lettering... ford_prefect 18:25, 4 July 2008 (BST)
I made a page for it so people can add anything extra that they discover. I was going to hunt down a dolphin so I could add it to the Monster page, but it's not on my tarot deck. Maybe you smote the last one! (Having read the google link, that would seem appropriate.) Rhapsodie 02:42, 5 July 2008 (BST)

Bögnør Bash or BUST!

It would appear the next scheduled party is the Bögnør Bash, set to take place on July 11th.
As a Tubthumper and frequent visitor to the Great North, I know it's a dangerous place and one must bring protection.

  • While the host intends to hand out free Jumpers and Woolly Gloves to many who arrive unprepared, it is advisable to bring your own woolens in decent supply lest they wear out and strand you.
  • It is best to bring eye protection. Purchase sun glasses before you arrive. Stylish and effective, it can't hurt to get a few pairs in case one falls apart.
If you find yourself in need of spare shades when you arrive, expect to see at least a dozen pairs of shades available at 4000 apiece at the Bögnør Market by the time the party begins. 01:04, 4 July 2008 (BST)
Addendum: Shades now on the market. Feel free to purchase them on arrival if you don't already have eye protection. If you do, please consider leaving them for others. 02:28, 19 July 2008 (BST)
  • It's almost certain that you've met or will meet somebody who has been very badly burnt by the sun's rays in the snowy wilderness. Those who haven't been to the North before may be surprised they need skin cream, but it's true! If nothing else, keeping it around for somebody else is a good idea.
  • Bögnør is far away, and the roads are hard to traverse. It's also far away from the amenities we have come to expect, and its citizens lack the expertise found in more densely populated areas. You'll find the Market to be sparse and prices high as a result of this combination of factors, so it is best to bring your own preparations.
Be aware that skis are as effective as winged boots on this terrain, for the most part. 18:44, 4 July 2008 (BST)
Great Lord Andrew points out that a way back home is very important. The taxis don't travel this road. Bring a talisman, although any ordinary elemental talisman will do. 20:11, 4 July 2008 (BST)
  • The distance is also a large commitment that many people aren't thrilled to make for joining the party, so a number of Summon Stones will be made available to those who wish to begin a chain.
Update: The Bögnør Bash shall take place at 34E 158N, overlooking a beautiful glacier from the safe slopes adjacent to the Bögnør Sauna. Do take an opportunity to explore the wonders of nature, but as always be aware of its perils. 18:44, 4 July 2008 (BST)
Second update: The High Tower of Wizardry will provide transportation via Portal from one of the four Cities in the 'Kingdom. Wizard alanda 00:49, 8 July 2008 (BST)
  • Finally, the Great North is home to a variety of fascinating wildlife and we encourage you to go out and see (or even stuff and mount) them all, but many of them are dangerous! Always take stock of yourself before you consider taking on a monster which may deal more damage than you can survive. It's a large and wild place, so always consider the return trip also.

If you pay attention to these important safety and travel tips, I'm sure you'll enjoy the Bögnør Bash. S. Mackie 03:44, 2 July 2008 (BST)

I wonder if the party square will override the local temperature.--LimeHan 04:23, 4 July 2008 (BST)
If not there's plenty of fashion-neutral clothes if you're well-equipped. Interesting question, though. S. Mackie 07:03, 4 July 2008 (BST)

Addendum: Just two days to go until my dream of two years comes to fruition. 04:38, 10 July 2008 (BST)

Just a thought: You might want to consider delaying the Bash one week, as a LOT of us are stuck in the Vents right now, and the first real wave of people exiting won't be until the 15th or 16th. Now if there's some significance to that week, no worries, but you may have a bit better attendance if you start on the 18th. -- Thog 05:47, 10 July 2008 (BST)
I wasn't sure I'd mind the low turnout, but...
You're not the first to request or comment on the matter. Essentially, the GLs one-upped me after the announcement. While I appreciate this new Air quest, and fully intend to partake when the party's over, there's nothing I can do now to make certain the party's available (geography aside) to everybody. What I can hope for, as people have requested, is to make it available to the first wave.
Of course, I can't do the Vents until me damn party's over, anyway. Been running low on AP petsitting, and the rest has been scouting and recuperation until recently.
Any complaints if it waits until about the 17th?
Addendum: *frowns* I was hoping for a little more input on this. 17th it is regardless. 21:46, 11 July 2008 (BST)

Rescheduling?!

So now Merchant's party will run until Saturday. I have Saturday off for once, or regardless can start it at Midnight on Friday GMT, but need I say this is irritating?
Insult to injury, the bugger didn't properly document the party's beginning.
I can't say as I'm paranoid enough to think he gives a damn one way or another about my party plans, but it's hard not to take the repeated setbacks a little personally. A diss for breach of etiquette. 19:32, 16 July 2008 (BST)

You lose a Rig.

oh, yes... You lose 43 Doses of Magic Powder. You lose 13 Mushrooms. You lose 5 Pouches of Magic Herb. You gain a Screen (Freezing Man).

BUST! it is.

Aw man, and now Lady Caroline's birthday party has started. You just can't win, can you dude?--LimeHan 01:56, 20 July 2008 (BST)

Agreed. In poor taste, this is, for having not asking I reschedule or at least making me aware. A birthday party doesn't take that long to plan. S. Mackie 03:20, 20 July 2008 (BST)
Addendum: After thinking it over for an hour, I've decided to attend Caroline's party. Always liked her, and... you know what? That's all I'm gonna say for the moment. It's been a pleasure; maybe, two years from now, I'll have another rig and can try this again. Meanwhile, we've a very special lady only recently out of limbo who needs a decent birthday bash. 03:38, 20 July 2008 (BST)

Sorry mate, I'd thoroughly checked the current parties page and saw that the last one (yours) was due to end 18th July. This conversation is so far down this page I didn't spot it. My party's only on over the weekend (it was my in-game birthday present, added via phone from the real life Hobbit at my real life BBQ) so I'll drop by yours afterwards. --Caroline 11:20, 20 July 2008 (BST)
