The Department of Ludicrous Actions Brings you...

... the Bridge to Northwich.

Yes, that's right. We now have bridge access from Bentnob to Oz, the Roc Totem, and Northwich. Well, because of the Icepack, we had to stop 28 squares north of Northwich, but if you bring Winged Boots and or Daedalus Wings, you should be able to make it the rest of the way on foot.

(Why? Why not?)

There are many other things that can be done with this:

  • Tributary Bridges to Bleak Island, Phw's Island, Dragon, Caroline Island, and the Bunny Isles
  • Maintaining the sucker. In about 4-6 months time, the icepack should be melted enough that the bridge can go direct to the gates of Northwich.
  • Pave the ocean by extending the bridge. Again, why not?

I will leave this to the aformentioned Really Bored Players to take it from here. -- Thog 04:14, 11 July 2009 (BST)

Let us find a lava bomb and declare war on Kaos Island! I'll pave the way. Literally. - Heyus2 10:34, 11 July 2009 (BST)

Prizes Ho!

So some of you may recall I had a birthday party a few months ago. We had party games. I never gave out prizes. Ooops.

Well, now we have many many prizes to give out, but it's up to the winners to do so. See here for details. Note that Scrumbucket is currently on the clock. -- Thog 00:19, 13 June 2009 (BST)

So we're just about done, and we have something on the order of a half dozen unclaimed prizes. Any suggestions as to how they get parcelled out? -- Thog 00:58, 4 July 2009 (BST)
Jayco/Payco. I've not talked him up as a recipient of good cheer lately. S. Mackie 06:25, 4 July 2009 (BST)

UPDATE: If all goes well, I'll be handing out prizes this weekend. Stay tuned, folks... -- Thog 04:14, 11 July 2009 (BST)

Easter Eggs

sooo, this is a bit late, but "current events" seems to be a bit of a misnomer page lately anyway (should we rename this page to "In case anyone missed it" or "since you haven't been on IRC in a while..." sorry, back to the point. I've got these easter eggs, been offline for a while so i didn't notice them till recently. (I would assume they showed up around Easter maybe? Is there anything i can do with them besides eating them for small healing benefit? Somehow I just expect there to be some cool hidden benefit to them. Like, you know, an /easter egg/? I haven't tried hitting rabbits with them yet. AmishRobots 02:10, 28 April 2009 (BST)

It seems they confer +5 AP and HP; neither permanent, from what I can see. S. Mackie 07:28, 28 April 2009 (BST)

My (if not excellent then reasonable) suggestions: Lobster Sword (shrimp), Phantom Sword (spirit), Heavenly Sword (pure), Black Sword (dark), Inert Sword (neutral), Frozen Sword (ice), Cloacal Sword (sewage). - Isambard 01:16, 27 March 2009 (GMT)

Vegeta! What does the Scouter say?

What?! 9000?!

WTF is a Scouter? It sorts under equipment, I've got two now, I'm even wearing one, and I must say that on me it looks good. Dendrast 02:43, 31 March 2009 (BST)
It goes on the face. I couldn't wear my Shades with it on. Is this some obscure slang we North Americans don't get? Dendrast 02:57, 31 March 2009 (BST)
Actually, I imagine this would be easier to understand for select North Americans than for some percentage of the UK, as it's from a Japanese animated show of... debatable worth, in my opinion. A Scouter is, in the setting of Dragonball Z, a manner in which to measure the opponent's chi or personal power or somesuch.
My little sister was a fan. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Personally, I think it's pro wrestling in anime format, which means it must serve a purpose to somebody in terms of giving a masculine soap-opera equivalent.
Some time ago, a piece of Youtube Poop came into existence which contained approximately fifteen seconds of DBZ looped, remixed, distorted, and stretched for a considerable length of time to emphasize that "it's over 9000!" The remix was almost lyrical in its accentuation of a far-too-common trope in that show, the measurement of and exasperation with an opponent's superpowers. S. Mackie 03:36, 31 March 2009 (BST)

Forum Stores

I just acquired a number of computing devices of a rather archiac nature. I wonder what I should do with these... --Tiltowait 14:03, 18 February 2009 (GMT)

And there's different old stuff from time to time. --Tiltowait 21:24, 19 February 2009 (GMT)
Word from the gods -
<AndyLandy> It's approximately once-every-three-weeks that you can buy a hard disk
So there's that. S. Mackie 13:29, 9 March 2009 (GMT)
So you make the IBM-Compatible PC - and is that it? They must be good for something. Has anyone tried making lots and connecting them up? At very least you should be able to connect to a BBS. Schnorrer 10:21, 15 March 2009 (GMT)
These are the GLs we're talking about, where no talk of "usefulness" is going to get in the way of a good in-joke or reference. Who says the computers are good for anything? PotatoEngineer 06:16, 17 March 2009 (GMT)
Maybe if you put a Perl in one, you can play Cities in Cities and build IBM-Compatible PCs while you build IBM-Compatible PCs. --Naimoigiant 13:21, 17 March 2009 (GMT)
Nice idea. But a 486 CPU and you're more likely to be playing nethack. Schnorrer 14:48, 17 March 2009 (GMT)
Leading up to this point, I might actually have wanted a Beowulf cluster entirely composed of 486 machines. When this is done, I don't think that'll be the case.
64 cases, at that. S. Mackie 04:52, 20 March 2009 (GMT)
Addendum: The Forum Stores haven't updated in two days. This is irritating. I begin to wonder if we have missed our flight; it would be rather cruel, but not wholly outside the realm of possibility. 05:03, 26 March 2009 (GMT)

Anabasis, what the ####?

Some ass named Anabasis cured my Lycanthropy out of the blue few days ago I think. I'm pretty pissed about it right now. Just saying, if you see this guy, give 'em a slap in the face or something for me. Or better yet, stab some syringe into him. - Cameron 00:56, 14 February 2009 (GMT)

Oh, and I wouldn't bother with sticking the hunter with a syringe if I were you. I understand that some werewolf hunters get into the business because they rather like that sort of thing. Or so I hear. ;) -Scrumbucket 17:53, 16 February 2009 (GMT)

How Rude!

Patchouli, if you're reading this don't think I'll forget how rude you've been running off with my Acles that I erroneously passed onto you on a trading post. Watch your back Patchouli. Herbacious 09:09, 13 February 2009 (GMT)

Although there's no benefit to be gained from starting your own pentacle (I think), it's quite unsporting to not return those acles. However, I think this is best left to be done through PAYGs. If you do need an acle or two, please PAYG me. Corellis 22:38, 13 February 2009 (EST)
PAYG - You think so? I think it's far more satisfying to rant and rave in public! I mean, Patchouli might be in limbo and never get my message - what a waste of indignation that would be.Herbacious 10:36, 15 February 2009 (GMT)
Of course, if he's in limbo, he probably won't bother checking the wiki (if he's even got a wiki account). Syagrius 18:20, 15 February 2009 (GMT)

Patchouli sends her apologies and has returned the acles. She went into limbo when she had eye surgery and wasn't on for a while. Any rudeness was entirely unintentional and regretted.

All allegations of rudeness are retracted. Patchouli, you're a brick. Herbacious 21:45, 16 February 2009 (GMT)

Thog's Birthday Party is over

My birthday party has ended. Thanks for everyone who showed up and participated. A few notes:

  1. Voting is still going on for the Thogopolis Tour Guide contest. (We're on a second round, since there was a four-way tie for second). Please head over to the page above and choose your favorite.
  2. I'll be announcing the winner of the latest Thogistani Army competition as soon as the judges send me their rankings and I tally them.
  3. Similarly the winner of the overall prize will be announced once the Army and Tour Guide contests finish
  4. Winners, please stay tuned. I'll be taking care of the long-awaited prizes in the very near future. After I stop for a day or two to breathe :-)

The Lists

I just noticed that the 'King is hanging out in the Lists just south of his Palace. Does this mean we can joust??? --Tiltowait 20:15, 5 January 2009 (GMT)

I don't think so. Not unless the List Field has reappeared as well, which it hadn't last time I was there. Maybe he's just haginging around for old time's sake? Either way, you could test it by going to the tent and seeing if you can register. -- Rhapsodie 21:15, 5 January 2009 (GMT)
I saw this a month ago, registered, and hung out in the field for a bit before getting bored and withdrawing. Everything acted like normal, so I imagine you probably could joust if you had an opponent. -Scrumbucket 00:43, 6 January 2009 (GMT)
Yes, I think it's active, you just need an opponent! --Tiltowait 14:42, 6 January 2009 (GMT)

Hamster-ific

Want a dragon but it's a long wait? Why not get a small rodent instead: Hamsters, one of the newest species of pet in the game! Put your name down here! -- Rhapsodie 02:34, 16 December 2008 (GMT)

Also, note that hamsters have been specified by Elseware to be the most powerful pets in the game, potentially. Rife speculation is that it's involves hamsters having vorpal-like abilities. The Curse of the Terrible Humidor, revisited

Be careful what you wish for. You just may get it.

Upon the birth of my son, back in January, the Great Lords saw fit to present me with a magical Humidor. A wonderous device from which cigars could endlessly be produced. These cigars essentially had the same properties as fags in terms of AP gain, combined with HP loss with the slight risk of lowered max AP or HP too. I gave them out freely in celebration of the arrival of my little boy Zack on the planet. Many enjoyed them.

Now, Zack is crawling and has teeth, but the humidor has become a curse upon me. 'How? Why?' you may ask. Well, I have for too long now been availing myself of the benefits of AP gain, but the toll has been high. Oh yes. My max AP and HP are battered to the point now where I have to do something about it and rid myself of this monkey on my back.

My name is XXXXXXXXXX BortJr and I am a cigar addict.

This is my attempt to get clean. And also (heh heh heh) pass on the curse, and in doing so make the game just a tiny bit more interesting too.

(The only caveat to the offer I am about to make is that it be, at some point, loaned to PotatoEngineer for his quest. I thought that might be nice for him). However - he is also free to make an offer for it himself to keep permanently too, should he so wish.

Smoking cigars is a gamble. Some evenings I've been able, through a combination of Dragon Stone use and cigars, to gain several hundred extra AP in the space of a few minutes. If you've got a massive max AP & HP combination, achieved through various means, surely that's a risk you'd be willing to take? This unique item has its price. The toll it takes may be mighty. But maybe *you* could be the one to beat the odds. Maybe you would use Universal Solvent to destroy it. Maybe you could place it out of reach - guarded by Polychromatic Dragons, placed on the corpse of a mule, deep under the ground - a quest such as this could be your legacy to the game, perhaps? Or you could come up with another solution or scheme.

So - my desire is this: Offer me cucumber sandwiches and Hard Knocks itemsValuables so that I may regain my constitution. Offer me many of them. A great many. And to the highest bidder goes the terrible Cursed Humidor to do with as he, she or zhe wishes. (sorry, tenex :) ) Place bids here, we'll go until we seem to have a winner. --BortJr 04:49, 11 December 2008 (GMT)

I'll kick off the bidding with a single Short String. PotatoEngineer 05:49, 11 December 2008 (GMT)

10X, didn't you get rid of the Humidor for a very good reason? PotatoEngineer 03:18, 15 December 2008 (GMT)
Obviously auctioning off the humidor at the start was part of a cunning plan to rid himself of 1 million gold pieces. Marvellous, 10X! You have my utter respect. Corellis 22:21, 14 December 2008 (EST)
You really want it back, 10X? You are the rightful owner, so I won't bid against you. --JAD 19:20, 15 December 2008 (GMT)
I figured he was just being a smart-ass. Am I wrong? -- Thog 19:30, 15 December 2008 (GMT)

I'm going to be a Dad again around February time and Zack is getting a little sibling, so I figured I'd need it once more. I'm afraid my mighty sperm cannot be defeated by conventional methods of birth control, so I'm gonna need that humidor again. So my bid stands.10X 23:28, 15 December 2008 (GMT)

Happy to hear it. Congrats on the expected child. Enjoy your humidor, and save me a celebratory cigar. --JAD 23:43, 15 December 2008 (GMT)
Another bid: 5 Spirit Wands, 5 Spirit Knives (used frequently in the Taxing Cellar, IIRC), 5 Ice Wands, 5 Ice Talismans, 5 Neutral Wands, 5 Neutral Talismans, a Shrimp Wand, a Shrimp Knife (good for breaking to complete the military quests), a Dark Wand2, a Sewage Wand2, and a Pure Wand3. I've, um, been hitting the Rainbow Wand pretty hard lately. Hey, dude, can you help me get a fix? PotatoEngineer 18:36, 16 December 2008 (GMT)
Damn, now i have to determine if that stuff is worth more than a million gp --BortJr 06:05, 19 December 2008 (GMT)
MWAHAHAHAHA! Far better you than me.  :) PotatoEngineer 05:15, 20 December 2008 (GMT)

I don't know whats going on with this, but I offer 1 million gold, and a rainbow wand for the humidor. -Stien 20:08, 21 December 2008 (GMT)
As a point of order, Rainbow Wands break after ~10 uses, and in that time you would turn spirit or neutral or ice.... roughly ONCE. You'd be very unlikely to get shrimp/sewage/goth/pure, though 20 wands might get you one of those. But I'll tack on 200k gold to my last bid. See Big Brother.
