The Knightly Order of Tubthumping -- We're Here To Help!

Died recently? Click on Help! I Died! Follow the instructions to contact us and help us get your stuff back.

WARNING: Do NOT post the exact location of your death, or the monster that killed you, on this page. Doing so will dramatically reduce your chances of a successful outcome, as corpse-stealing ghouls are known to monitor this page.

How It Works

Are you...

  • recently deceased, a freshly minted member of the Cod?
  • depressed that you haven't signed up for the King's excellent (and FREE) insurance policies at your home shrine?
  • really kicking yourself in the arse right now for not using the Clean Bandages you just remembered you had?
  • just beginning to realize how much really cool stuff you had, and how little you really got to try out most of it? (Like, for example, those Clean Bandages?)
  • dreading starting over, with all that onerous collecting of Clean Bandages?

Well, there's still hope. We Knights aren't just going to stand around taunting you, although we may do a fair bit of that for a while. We're Here to Help!

Should you find yourself in need of our services (you dummy), i.e., you wake up in the shrine of your alignment, dazed and weak, here's what you should do:

  1. Scream, "Oh, <insert favorite expletive here>!!!" as loudly as practical in your personal circumstances.
  2. Head for the local Donation Point. Which are where?
By the way is it at all strange that after my character does the time and space quest he begins collecting GPS of monsters everywhere?
  1. Take the offered transport to the Keep (the Knightly Order pays to maintain the system so that there is no cost to you. But we don't pay much, so don't expect it to be a quick trip.)
  2. Visit the morgue and look for your body. Claim it if it's there, and get your stuff back.
  • Click here to read the current list of toe-tags in the morgue. (The coroner does his best, but some folks wear disguises.)
  1. If it's not, then pay a visit to the Shelter for Charity Handouts, where you will have an opportunity to see what can be given to you from the items fellow adventurers have donated. Then get back to where you were when you died as quickly as you can and kill that critter good.

If your individual situation is more complicated (meaning, you've got a survey vessel sized load of stuff that you don't want to leave lying around for long, and 2 water stones and a rusty sword just won't get it done), consider applying for our more traditional service offering, below. Click on Help! I Died! to post your request for summoning and other aid. You'll find instructions on how to communicate the location of your demise securely, and a place to request the specific items and/or transportation your unique situation requires. Hopefully, some philanthropic Paladin will spot your request and make arrangements with you to get you back on your feet.

Either way, presumably, you're then on your own. After all, you did DIE, and that's ultimately your own stupid fault.

If You Find a Body

If you run across somebody's corpse, please bring it to the nearest Donation Point and donate it as soon as you can. As you can well imagine, they're likely to want it back. It will be transported immediately by the K.O.T. transport system to the morgue at the Keep (much faster than its owner, as dead bodies are easily folded into small boxes), where it will be maintained by highly trained specialists in our specially designed climate-controlled facility.

Please post a note under Who Died?, also; and indicate where the body is (usually you've got it near a trading post, or it's at the morgue) so the victim knows where to look. Thankfully, if you do not do this, the body will probably show up on the botfeed anyway once you drop it off at a Donation Point. We just happen to be sticklers for tradition.

Locations of Donation Points:

Other Chivalrous Activities

With such a thriving community of chivalrous, philanthropic Paladins, full of good karma, what other wonders could we wreak?

Of course, we all want to give regularly and generously at Donation Points. Remember the Guidelines for Donations.

In addition:

  • Sand worm hunts?
  • Polychromatic dragon slaying festivals? These are rumored to be less fun than previously thought.
  • Trading Post Martial Arts Training?
  • Boat-Making Parties?
  • Duke-Making Parties?

Ideas are welcome here, but discussion thereof should take place HERE. (Sert promises to try to remember the difference). Bear in mind that the purpose of such Knightly events is to better equip us to serve the Cod.

Roster of the Paladins

At this time, membership is completely informal, voluntary, and the only requirements are that you be at least an Earl, and be willing to take the pledge. If you are an Earl, you must commit to immediately becoming a Duke. If you are truly honorable and firmly committed to this task, we are here to help you.

Likewise, if you are not yet Desert-Worthy, you must prepare yourself for the Gauntlet. Requiring all prospective members to become desert-worthy ensures an added damage bonus as well as a certain mobility, critical for killing those hard-to-reach monsters.

Requiring Earlishness / Dukeishness as a prerequisite for membership accomplishes three things:

  • It helps to ensure the independent wealth and durability of our membership, which is important to our primary mission of providing assistance to the CoD;
  • It ensures the capability and safety of our membership during rescue missions to the remoter parts of the realm; and
  • It confers a certain snobbishness and elitism, which all members of the Order relish.

The pledge is as follows:

  • I, State your Name, pledge to watch the "Help! I died!" space below, and to be ready and willing to help fellow adventurers in need, by summoning them, rescuing them, and/or providing a useful bit of my loot to help get them back on their feet.

Founders and Knights Illuminus

Founders were there at the beginning and wear special badges proclaiming their status. You can identify them by their extra fancy t-shirts with their names in embroidery.

-- The special badge may read, "Founder and Knight Illuminus of the Knightly Order of Tubthumping -- We're Here to Help!"

Deceased Founder Emeritus Douro, R.I.P. -- Fellow knights, it saddens me greatly to report the passing of one of our founders, the esteemed Paladin Douro, who succumbed to frostbite today in the frozen wastelands of the North. He will be missed greatly, for both his words and his deeds. On the bright side, he's created a new quest for us. -- Sertularian 03:34, 19 February 2006 (GMT)

Knights Illuminus

Knights Illuminus are Knights of the Order who proclaim their status to the world by wearing a badge, then move their names to this section of the roster. They wear fancy t-shirts with their names on them.

-- The preferred badge inscription reads, "Knight Illuminus of the Knightly Order of Tubthumping -- We're Here to Help!"

Help! I Died!

Please follow the directions for formatting your request. Come on, people, they're not that hard. We Paladins are known for dragon and giant killing, not for reading carefully. And we all refuse to wear those silly glasses.

Corpse-thieving ghouls are known to watch this page with the express purpose of getting to your stuff first when you die. And they don't usually give it back. (Boo!) So, if you want real help, don't mention where you died or the beast that gakked you here on this page. Reserve that information for secure communications.

  • Post requests for assistance at the end of this section.
  • Don't post specific locations where piles of good stuff can be found on this page. Click here to contact one or more KOT Paladins securely instead. Do post a general location, such as "alongside the road", "inside the mountains", or "eastern part of the Great Desert". This will help us decide who should respond.
  • Try to contact a Knight that's in the general area of your demise and, if you can, be prepared with specific location information once someone answers your call. Some of the knights note where they are on the Roster of the Paladins, and their notes are sometimes even up to date! If you don't have the coordinates, obtain and use a Magic Ball repeatedly until it tells you them. (Magic Balls usually can be obtained for free at Charity Handouts.) Again, don't post the coordinates here.
  • If you need summoning and you're wearing a party hat, rip it off. People wearing hats, and registered duellists, cannot be summoned.
  • Please start your request with three equals signs, three single-quotes, four tildes, three more single quotes, and three more equals signs. Like this:
=== '''~~~~''' ===
  • This is important. We need to have all of this information easily accessible, and there can be a lot of it. If in doubt, look at how the other folks did it via the Edit function. Doc Mackie
  • If you receive help, please clear out your request to keep this page tidy, and if you were helped, list yourself under Victories of the Order. Please also list the name of the paladin who rescued you. (Mainly so I don't clear the victory out) Syagrius 18:25, 9 March 2006 (GMT)
  • ...and consider joining the Knightly Order yourself!

In Cod we trust.

Hypothetical Dead Person!

This is a sample Help! I Died! post. The title is bracketed by three === signs. I have not listed the location of my death, nor the monster that killed me, and may have contacted individual Knights concurrently with my posting here. Both helps, but make the post at the minimum. I can be reached at hypothetical AT person.cod and have signed with four tildes: Hypothetical Dead Person! 20:17, 30 May 2006 (BST)

I only add that tildes are the <shifted> ` key located in the upper left of stardard qwerty keyboards(it took me a while to find, not everyone knows what a tilde is) Spacer one 16:04, 31 May 2006 (BST)

I've got a spare Dragon Stone. It's yours if you want it. -- Celane 22:28, 26 June 2006 (BST)
I have, um, eight dragon stones. But you don't want one... -- Sertularian 22:46, 26 June 2006 (BST)
I also have a spare dragon stone. Syagrius 14:15, 27 June 2006 (BST)
Where do you get the extras? Sertularian, I'll take one of yours if you have that many spares... Where can i meet you? Donkey
You get them from killing sparrows, of course. Doesn't everyone? I'm about to burn off a couple hundred AP, tentatively winding up at the Park Bench in Windy City. Might I suggest a Monk Donk Stocking Party? I understand your newfound philosophy, but perhaps it would be acceptable to outfit you with some low-cost consumable items, e.g. talismans, swords, bows, arrows, etc? Things most Dukes wouldn't mind losing. I'll leave a note here if I end up somewhere else. Palantir me, post here, use wikimail, or send a carrier pigeon to reply. -- Sertularian 23:38, 27 June 2006 (BST)
Five words: Pirate's Hat, Brighthelm Rock Shop. If, on top of that, you keep a ready supply of cash, 10,000 oughta glean you a rock. Also, if you have a Tarot Deck (something every monk needs, and if you don't I'll donate; a completed deck is sticky!) then you can hunt the Undead Dragon again! Found that out when somebody died against it and I had to help them find it again. (They were out of AP.) macksting 19:42, 27 June 2006 (BST)
donkey is at the Park Bench. I have presented him with some rude tools and simple amenities consistent with his newfound monkish lifestyle. Oh, and a dragon stone. I encourage my brethren and sistren to do likewise before he escapes back to his hermit-hidey-hole in the Theives' Forest. (Do likewise with the rude tools and simple amenities, I mean, not dragon stones. After all, Who would ever need more than one?) -- Sertularian 12:22, 28 June 2006 (BST)
Wow. Thanks Sertularian! That was a ton of stuff! I'm not going to fight a thief for at least a day, just to make sure I get to use a bunch of that stuff (wands, talismans, bows, arrows and of course, the dragon stone) befor it gets nicked. So watch out Ninjas, Spiders, Brutes BAdgers and the occasional Squirrel. Donkey's coming for you.
Sweet! You still haven't told me, of course, whether or not you want Tarot Cards. I keep them as barter agents, so I'd rather not give them to somebody with a complete deck unless it's for a quest. macksting 20:17, 28 June 2006 (BST)

One more apple pip and then I will be more than happy to stop by the Park Bench and drop a good deal of stuff off on the Donkey Monk, if he's still there. -- Celane 01:21, 29 June 2006 (BST)

No, I'm off fighting anything and everything. Thanks for all the help, but I'm having a grand old time now with my dragon stone. I've even killed 2 theives and they haven't made a move at it. Thanks again- COme visit in the forrest and kill things. Donkey the Monk
That's what I'm doing, actually; I've been killing ninja and appreciating my own Dragon Stone. Found a Treeman, even! See you 'round.  ;) Celane 22:31, 29 June 2006 (BST)
Not as much need to do that now, myself. Just killed two Treemen within 5 squares of eachother (and, for that matter, within five squares each of other hunters...) and got 25 pieces of Ancient Wood. I now have my Speed Boat! macksting 00:03, 2 July 2006 (BST)

markles 10:08, 4 July 2006 (BST)

Though i'd clicked full heal on my dragon stone, then attacked again...

Okay what do you need? PlanetNiles 10:58, 4 July 2006 (BST)
As soon as I have some AP I'll let you know.

As far as I can tell, now that I've got AP, I'd bought a full insurance policy. Was confused by the following text

As agreed, you must work two days in the shrine in return for them retrieving some of your stuff.
Your policy is now fulfilled. You may wish to take out a new one, or next time you die you will lose all your stuff.

So I thought that I still had some stuff to recover, but since I worked for two days I guess not. Thanks for the offer of assistance markles 12:52, 7 July 2006 (BST)

That explains a few things about our low turn-out rate on the page lately. Well, we still serve a purpose, so that's good. :) macksting 20:18, 7 July 2006 (BST)
I always do the two-day deal so that if when the inevitable happens I don't take up knightly resources myself. PlanetNiles 10:06, 8 July 2006 (BST)

Who Died?

Post here if you come across a corpse and hopefully we can reunite it with its owner. (Corpses contain the items of the deceased.) Also, donate the corpse at a Donation Point for transport back to the morgue at the Keep.

  • See below for corpse entries.

Morgue Contents

This feed lists all corpses currently waiting pick-up at the morgue.

http://cities.totl.net/cgi-bin/morgue

  • The morgue is filling up. One would think people would want their body (and stuff) back. :)
    • The morgue is the new Limbo!
      • Is THAT what elseware meant when he said "Limbo is now limboier"?  :) Syagrius 21:19, 15 March 2006 (GMT)
  • Damn. We're gonna need a bigger morgue. There's a lot of people in there multiple times - do we need to get the word out better, that you can get your stuff back easily by visiting it? -- Sertularian 00:06, 18 March 2006 (GMT)
Or give us the option to loot the body straight into the Keep Shop after a week or something. Syagrius 01:03, 18 March 2006 (GMT)
Longer than a week, man. Also, consider how very many items are, really, quite renewable. macksting 09:30, 18 March 2006 (GMT)
Maybe have a 'King's messanger hand each player a little note, saying "If you've died, be sure to check out the KOT Morgue near Water City. Your corpse may have found its way there." And I agree on having a longer amount of time than a week - that was just an example. Syagrius 23:32, 22 March 2006 (GMT)
I can't find the morgue, where is it?
It's in the Keep, on (I believe) the east side of it. macksting 16:57, 2 April 2006 (BST)
aghh, where is the keep then?
Roughly 20 squares west of the water city (or about 80 east of Fire); it has its own road and is easily found. Alternatively you can go to a donation point and teleport to the great hall for about 30AP. PlanetNiles 10:10, 17 April 2006 (BST)

I would like to see some kind of "morgue Talisman" Spacer one 16:12, 11 May 2006 (BST)

There's a permanent one in each elemental city (plus at least Brighthelm), at the K.O.T. donation point. Since those that need transport the most are always at the Shrine of their alignment, they're only a few steps away. Costs 30 AP. -- Sertularian 05:35, 12 May 2006 (BST)
How about Body Bag, you put the corpse inside and zoom - both the bag and the corpse are teleported to the morgue. Availabe for 1000 Gold at the Keep. Would save a ton of AP for the dedicated Knight. --Schwarz 14:46, 28 May 2006 (BST)
I suggested that ages back. Maybe now something will be done :) PlanetNiles 17:51, 28 May 2006 (BST)
A talisman for the body, not for the person - now I get it! Brilliant! Say you find a corpse in the middle of the Desert/Frozen North, or while doing Standing Stones - you don't want to screw up your schedule and have to hike all the way back just to go drop off a body, so the poor sap who lost it has to wait around to get his/her stuffs back. The Body Bag solves this problem, and cuts down the "Corpses Awaiting Delivery" section too. Admins/Developers? -- Sertularian 13:03, 29 May 2006 (BST)

I have corpses Baron Ancev & Baron Saile. I will donate them tomorrow after my standing stone (: ~ YFM

Earl Osiris MD, eaten by living tar in the gauntlet, will be dropped off in the morgue when possible. glunt 11 May 2006

Glunt, alternatively, you could "donate" the corpse at the K.O.T. donation point in any city. It will be taken to the morgue for you. But the Keep is definitely worth a visit, if you haven't seen it. -- Sertularian 05:37, 12 May 2006 (BST)
Now I've got Duke Darby, stepped on by a small dragon in the gauntlet, who I'll drop off at a K.O.T. donation point this time, instead of going to the morgue in person. BTW, I didn't finish the gauntlet last time because I didn't have enough health, and no money for healing when I hit the First Aid Stations. I have Baron Tred - I'll deliver him as soon as I get to a donation point. Ant 21:52, 13 June 2006 (BST)

Victories of the Order

Granted that most of our victories are more moral than technical, it still seems right to keep a running track of those situations in which we were able to reunite a fallen warrior with his or her stuff.

  • If you are rescued by the order, please list who rescued you, so we can keep a proper tally of the victories. We don't want to claim victory when it's unwarrented. Syagrius 18:23, 9 March 2006 (GMT)

Douro 30000 (also deposited as a Donation)
Jon 25000 (ditto)
Syagrius 12000 gold put in as donation, as well as a couple of emeralds, 15 magic balls, and enough weaponry to start a small army. :) Syagrius 05:17, 18 February 2006 (GMT)

Quantum sez- Would donations of Magic Balls and Magic Emeralds help the order?

That would be under the Lending category, in our Discussion bar. Although, now that you mention it...
Please don't donate too many Magic Balls at donation points. We should reserve them for use as in the cases above, where Cod members with lots o' stuff don't know where they died. Summon them to a DP, give/lend them an MB, get the coordinates and off you go on your big white horse. -- Sertularian 00:04, 17 February 2006 (GMT)

Current Available Magic Balls and Magic Emeralds: 7 MB, 5 ME

Sy 2 MB, 1 ME
Mackie No clue!
Sert Ask me!
Billz8 4 spare Magic Emeralds, 6 Magic Balls
Jenali A bunch and a bunch. Ask.
Geayzus 3 spare Magic Balls, 1 spare Magic Emerald

The discussion of Lending has been moved to the bar, since that's where all the Knights are anyway.

Overheard at the Bar

Jenali, 13:14, 7 Feb 2006 (GMT) -- 7 dragons to go before I can help out myself!

if you need a heal just buzz/summon me. Doc Sheyona
We'd love to have you. macksting 21:49, 8 Feb 2006 (GMT)
Here I am. Anyone wanna help with those sandwiches? =) 10 February 2006 (GMT)
Noob ;-) I remember a time, back in the day when I helped out a sorry individual who had died and lost all his stuff then lamented about it on the Trading Post page. I duly summoned him and provided him with a goodly selection of equipment. Now he goes from strength to strength and helps out others in need. Lady Caroline
Indeed! e.bstan was a "noob"!! :D well he learned a lesson and with the generous supports from Lady Caroline, he is backed with power and strength! nah... i owe you one. ;p e.bstan 15:39, 10 February 2006 (GMT)
Hmmm. Doc Mackie was rescued by moj, who was probably rescued at some point by E.bstan, who was inspired by being rescued by Lady Caroline -- I guess we now know who REALLY started this whole thing!
Bah, you young whipper-snappers (except Lady Caroline). Before there was a northland, before there were thieves, before any heard tell of Great Deserts and Oceans, clouds, space, lords, and gauntlets, when fresh stone chips still littered the ground around the Standing Stones and Dragons were the newest monster......Then it was that Baron Droll happened upon Baron dmonx and offered him Walking Stick, Map, and Fire Sword, so that he could avenge his defeat at the hands of something-or-other. Perhaps that was not even the first time aid was given in time of need. The concept is ageless, but credit goes (properly) to the founders of the Order for creating some organization around it.
Welcome, Duke Droll, to our humble drinking establishment! Have a seat by the fire, you look a little cold. Thanks for sharing the legends of the early days, from the time when the dragons hatched. We newcomers are just trying to do our part! -- Sertularian 16:47, 9 March 2006 (GMT)
Aye! Defeat at the hand of the newfangled Undead Dragon, it was. Dmonx 16:02, 9 April 2006 (BST)
I think some pinata-finding and sandwich-making is in the works, but I'll do what I can! --Jenali
