Revision as of 14:56, 25 September 2008

I bet I can find 1,000,000 people who hate the new interface...

Actually, the reason is mostly to reduce load. Rendering the list of objects is about 25% of the load of generating a page. The catch is it has to work out all the modifiers and powers to get the to-hit and damage.

The old interface will remain indefinitely but the default will be changed to the new style in a few weeks.

To try the new interface, use the (revamped) preferences button on the bottom left.

Sorted Stuff

  • The "Market Offers" button is broken and does things to the inventory instead of showing me what I've got on the markets --naath 13:47, 25 September 2008 (BST)
  • I've also lost my merchant quick choice (not sure if anyone uses these any more but 4 slots for most used items would be nice. --Duke angelsk MD 13:15, 25 September 2008 (BST)
    • seconded, since it would keep us from having to go into the inventory, which is slow (understandably). Perhaps you could have the last used items on the screen somewhere, without having to click on the inventory button. Don't know that there is room for either of those things, really. And it kinda looks like the last used part of the inventory was made to kinda take the place of the merchant quests, but... • The new interface will be perfect when PotatoEngineer modifies his GM Quickdraw script to work here. The merchant quick choice is good, but Quickdraw is [much] better and implemented on the client side via a script. Faster loading is a no-brainer. Full steam ahead. --Tiltowait 13:25, 25 September 2008 (BST)
      • Thirded. Oh gods, now I have to figure out what category my Ghastly Bling is in! Uh... magic? No. Uh... equip? OK, there it is. And I also have to unlearn all my keyboard/mouse conventions ("Click here, type GHA, then move the mouse slightly, then click outside the pull-down."). Not saying I don't appreciate the effort. And I'm sure a few little tweaks will have us all running happily. Transitions are always a pain. -Greycat 13:28, 25 September 2008 (BST)
      • Agreed. I plan to add a freebie version of the quest reward, as it will reduce server load. (sorry about the wasted past effort... well, not really very sorry) Elseware 13:30, 25 September 2008 (BST)

Suggestions

  • Make the message box a different colour to make it stand out. Doesn't have to be white but even a little differentiation would help. Phw 13:34, 25 September 2008 (BST)
    • Done Elseware 13:38, 25 September 2008 (BST)
  • Have an all items listing so if we can't work out the obvious category we can see a full list (slower I know but I couldn't find tribble pelts for love nor money) Havelock2 13:39, 25 September 2008 (BST)
    • done.
  • Make the "expanded" message box remain expanded until shrunk, please. Across screen loads. -Greycat 13:48, 25 September 2008 (BST)
    • good idea -- I'll make it a preference.
  • Perhaps combine "Using" and "Recently Used" in one section? And give both headers the same treatment as all the other title areas (i.e. bigger and bold)? As is, the labels and the items used tend to blend together -- Thog 14:57, 25 September 2008 (BST)

command line

Have a text box to type in partial item names and have it search for them in your inventory - I've been using the "Item Selector" GM script for this, so I can type in any part of the name ("pelt") for instance and get at it. I'm bad at remembering where things go (for a while I had my stuff bagged by inventory type and could never find anything) and what their full names are; and I'm not a big fan of clicking lots. --naath 13:44, 25 September 2008 (BST)
