New Interface

From Cities

I bet I can find 1,000,000 people who hate the new interface...

Actually, the reason is mostly to reduce load. Rendering the list of objects is about 25% of the load of generating a page. The catch is it has to work out all the modifiers and powers to get the to-hit and damage.

The old interface will remain indefinitely but the default will be changed to the new style in a few weeks.

To try the new interface, use the (revamped) preferences button on the bottom left.

  • the expand / shrink function for the info pane seems to be working the opposite to what I'd expect? Havelock2 13:12, 25 September 2008 (BST)

(I'm off work sick today and spending too much time on cities and COD4. :( )

    • hmmm. it's a css thing. I set it to be fixed or variable, basically Elseware 13:29, 25 September 2008 (BST)
  • I've also lost my merchant quick choice (not sure if anyone uses these any more but 4 slots for most used items would be nice. --Duke angelsk MD 13:15, 25 September 2008 (BST)
    • seconded, since it would keep us from having to go into the inventory, which is slow (understandably). Perhaps you could have the last used items on the screen somewhere, without having to click on the inventory button. Don't know that there is room for either of those things, really. And it kinda looks like the last used part of the inventory was made to kinda take the place of the merchant quests, but... I SOLD ALL THOSE ITEMS AT A LOSS, DARN IT! density 13:23, 25 September 2008 (BST)
      • The new interface will be perfect when PotatoEngineer modifies his GM Quickdraw script to work here. The merchant quick choice is good, but Quickdraw is [much] better and implemented on the client side via a script. Faster loading is a no-brainer. Full steam ahead. --Tiltowait 13:25, 25 September 2008 (BST)
      • Thirded. Oh gods, now I have to figure out what category my Ghastly Bling is in! Uh... magic? No. Uh... equip? OK, there it is. And I also have to unlearn all my keyboard/mouse conventions ("Click here, type GHA, then move the mouse slightly, then click outside the pull-down."). Not saying I don't appreciate the effort. And I'm sure a few little tweaks will have us all running happily. Transitions are always a pain.
      • Agreed. I plan to add a freebie version of the quest reward, as it will reduce server load. (sorry about the wasted past effort... well, not really very sorry) Elseware 13:30, 25 September 2008 (BST)

  • copper axe sorts under junk not weapon (not sure if its always been that way)Havelock2 13:18, 25 September 2008 (BST)

  • I tried to go 'up' the tower near the King's Road yesterday in the newfangled and instead it changed the item I was using from 'fists' to 'GPS' --Zacharias 13:24, 25 September 2008 (BST)
    • Just looked again - I think it's a CSS/hidden issue. At present the word 'abilities' in the new interface seems linked the last item on the inventory recent items... --Zacharias 13:27, 25 September 2008 (BST)

Suggestions

  • Make the message box a different colour to make it stand out. Doesn't have to be white but even a little differentiation would help. Phw 13:34, 25 September 2008 (BST)
