With the surge in popularity of the K.O.T., a notably worthy cause, we started discussing an alternative for more "seasoned" adventurers... spice things up a bit.

We are of the opinion that because of the nature of the game, it is extremely difficult to die in Cities without knowingly risking death (see Conservative Combat ).

While we certainly do not wish to diminish the work of the K.O.T., we feel that reaping the rewards of the game may involve gains from creatures that may have killed other players. We still both support the actions of the K.O.T. and encourage continued donation to their cause. We would like to introduce the idea of an "heroic death" for higher level players into the game though.


First Phase

Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) List

Below is a list of adventurers who wish not to have their corpses sent to the K.O.T. The lucky adventurer that comes upon these deceased characters is entiteld to all of their items. A sort of organ donor program if you will.

DWE is a dead character (I no longer found him interesting). One of my goals with him is to die at least once a day, so there should be lots of corpses. Take whatever you get off of him. I have another character, DWE2 which is my chance to start over. Should he die please return him to the keep. Thanks.

Second Phase

(admin willing of course - and suggestions welcome!)

We propose an in-game option for an heroic death, which would work something like this:

  • At any time, an adventurer who has reached at least the status of Earl can sign up for this at her aligned shrine (or with the king) for a small cost (20ap or a coupla pints of blood perhaps). This could be implimented like the current insurance policies.
  • Once signed up, your corpse cannot be returned to the K.O.T. and your characters items would be lootable once again.
  • Once dead a couple things would happen:
    • The adventurer that finds the body will be entitled to all resources, but the corpse would remain in that spot.
    • The deceased character would be placed in a Limbo like place (or converted to a ghost, with white name and be able to wak around the map - whispering to people to join the pyre), think Elysium fields.
    • The deceased character must get two people to perform a funeral pyre at the location of death, which would involve both players worshipping at this spot at the same time, and perhaps using items like wood, matches, and a phoenix feather. Possible rewards for attending a pyre could be measure of serenity, relics, etc...
    • Some sort of permanant marker would be placed at that spot such as a gravestone (as already suggested).
    • Once the funeral pyre has been performed, the character would then return to the game with all previous stats (as is done currently) but would have roman numerals after her name. For example, if "Earl zingus" died and a funeral pyre was performed, he would return as "Earl zingus II" to symbolize perhaps the son/daughter living on the heroic memory of the fallen adventurer. Hence the Noble Blood.

Thoughts?

We think this could alter cities in a couple of notable ways, namely making human->human interaction more likely (coordination of the pyre, ghost wispering, etc), putting a bit of risk in it for seasoned players, and overall fun...

I like it. Would PC ghosts count towards the Spotters Guide and could they be effected by ghost hunters and the like? PlanetNiles 12:24, 20 February 2006 (GMT)
