This is an example of parameterised inclusion. You can use an invocation such as the one visible in the wikisource of this page to create a custom variant of the elemental diagram.
Note: If you want to do this, it is generally considered better (for server efficiency) to avoid nesting templates. To evaluate a second template into your template at save time, which is preferred if possible, use the subst parameter: {{subst:Elements|earth=...}}
This template is protected to keep as a pristine example. Copy it to your own, like Template:Elements/MyElements - or if to be used in User:-space, to User:MyUsername/ElementsTemplate. You don't need to copy any of this section within <noinclude>...</noinclude>.
